Should do - as long as you're sure that the codes are right - the one I bought worked, in a fashion...

I got my RCD500 replaced under warranty at VW and they did pair it to the car, but the only or main reason for doing so was so that I could use the original code I had with the old stereo.

If this isn't done then you just have to use the new code that comes with the new stereo - no big deal!

I'm sorry to be thick but what codes are we talking about. I thought the radio was coded to the ecu for that car so the ecu would need recoding to a new radio but why would the radio need a code. I haven't noticed the radio ever ask for a code.

Oops... I am thick. Of course the convenience control module does have the code for the original radio. When you add a new radio it will not match the convenience control module code. The code will be incorrect so the radio will ask for manual input of the correct code. You enter the correct code and the radio will now work but, For all functions to work as per original set up the convenience control module needs recoding. Phew!!!!!

Forgive my perhaps naive question - if the entered code does not work (radio displays 'safe') this absolutely means the code is wrong?

This is an ebay radio and I don't want to go through the whole complaining procedure if in fact there is some sort of bonding process that is required! If it makes any difference this is a Grundig RCD300, replacing a Blaupunkt RCD300 in a 54 plate Touran.

Don't know. I was quoting vw. I do wonder if it means that the ccm needs programing if the extra cd player is added. Perhaps one of the vw techs on here has actually done it.
