Hi, this is my first time on here and was wondering if anyone could help me.
I have just put a '87 1.8 GTi k-jet engine into my 1990 1.6 driver. I have changed everything, fuel pump, fuse box, wireing loom, ignition barrel etc (from a donor car) and cant seem to get it going as there is no spark at plug. When i took it out i had a plug connector (red/black + green/black wires) and three black seperate wires going to my coil but i only have two black wires now. Dont know where the other ones gone as its not with the engine compartment loom. Any ideas what it is for and where it goes?
    Its driving me mad

Any help will be much appreciated

The coil must have a power feed to the three position connector that is marked as 15 and this wire is always black. The other position on the coil is 1 and has a red/black and a green wire.

So will it come from the fusebox then. If so, where abouts?

The black comes directly from the fuse box and the green goes to the ECU and the red/black back to the fuse box. The black is on the engine bay wiring harness and another black to the coil line 1 goes to the ECU on the ECU harness. I am sorry I can’t be more specific but I have my home PC dismantled (working on the wife’s lap top) and I am at home decorating.

Hi, just checked and i have all those wires you mentioned. But when i took it out of the donor car i remember pulling three black wires off one side of the coil. I have had a look in my haynes manual and that shows three wires aswell but cant make out where it goes. It shows it in the haynes manual under - wiring diagram for starter, alternator, battery, ignition system and increased idiling speed. 1.8 models with fuel injection from August 1984 to July 1987. Its a black wire with a number 6 in a square.
If anyone can tell me where this wire goes i would really appreciate it.

Sorry, I missed that it was K-jet you were installing. I am struggling a little working on this lap top just grabbing a few minutes here and there.

The coil still has a black power feed in to coil 15 from the fuesbox and a black back out to the ignition amp with the other going to the acceleration enrichment diaphragm I think, unfortunately I have no info at home whatsoever so I am working from memory. From coil 1, the green goes to the ignition amp (it is the coil trigger line) with the red/black going back to the fuse box for fuel pump relay activation and dash rev feed. Your car, is the hazard warning light switch on the dashboard or on the steering column?

I can explain the numbered square to you though. That square refers to current track 6, so look down the page below the square in line with the black wire to below the horizontal line that runs along the bottom of the diagram and see what number it says. Say for example the track number below that black wire is 23, you then look along the diagrams and find current track 23 (probably a page or two along) and look up to find a box saying 6 and with the same colour wire leading to it, that is the continuation of the wire.

I cant seem to find the wire coming from the acceleration enrichment diaghram. I can understand the haynes wiring diagram now though. There is a connector plug with a black and white wire there but it just goes to the fusebox and no black wire to the coil. Will these go to the fusebox and then back to the coil?

I tried starting it again with a set of bulb connectors in between the spark plug and HT leads and the bulb lights up very faint so there is a bit of power going to the spark plugs but not enough to make a spark.

I forgot to mention that the hazard warning light switch is on the dashboard.

I have all the other coil wires i just need the acceleration enrichment diaghram wire.

Well as you have the hazard switch on the dash, you have the same fuse box as the K-Jet cars, I was worried you may have the later fuse box which came in during 1990 and that would complicate maters. I really can’t remember the wiring that clearly so it may have to wait until Monday until I go back to work if you haven’t sorted it out by then. No connection to the acceleration enrichment diaphram will not stop it from starting but may be symptomatic of an error elsewhere. Take a piece of wire (reasonably thick, capable of carrying 15 amps and 10 amp fused) from the battery positive terminal and connect it to the number 15 terminal on the coil and see if that helps.
