My rear fog lights have stopped working.

The in-dash indicator light, lights up and both the fog light bulbs are good.

I suspect the relay, does anyone know which one it is?? haynes doesn't really help.

    Thanks in advance

I very much doubt there would be a relay for a 21w bulb (there is only one foglight)
It is most likely the switch or the wiring. You need to find which pin at the back of the switch is for the rear foglight and put 12v down it and see if it comes on. You remove the switch by pushing it in and turning it to sidelights and then pulling out. You could also try swapping it over with someone else's as it only takes 10 seconds.

    Thanks for the reply crasher

If the fog light indicator light in the dash illuminates as it should then I would think the switch is working correctly??

The Haynes wiring diagram for the fog light circuit shows a relay but not it's position on the relay plate.

I have aftermarket rear lights fitted so I've 2 rear fogs, they've been fitted for 3 years and no problems up till now

You need to test the light with a multimeter, if no power then test at fuse and work backwards towards the switch.

I had this exact same problem with my old 96 Passat. After checking everything you've checked, I decided to run a new wire all the way from the back of the headlight switch to the rear light clusters and this solved the problem. I can only assume that there must have been a broken/very weak connection somewhere in the original wiring. When I was testing my rear fogs, there was only enough current at the back of the car to illuminate a tiny LED.
