    Hi,

I have a Audi A4 2.0 TDI Avant which I bought in August 08. Since i bought the car I have had to top the car with one litre of oil, which is okay only that that the oil light has come on again after doing just 3k miles...is this common in diesels?

I bought the car with a milege of 47k milege, i think I topped it with a litre of oil at 48k. Since toping it up the oil light has some on on again after just 51k...but I can't be sure.

The oil I used was 5w-30 Castrol Edge and the next long life service is due in 4k miles.

Can someone tell me if this common in Audi's or is there a problem with mine?

    Thanks Adam.

    hi,

well they do seem to have a reputation of using oil, but am i right in saying youve topped up 1 ltr in 3k .if so thats 330ml per 1k or about a can of coke worth ,depending on driving style usage thats not a lot really .

    cheers

Thats higher than mine but still ok according to Audi guidelines. Mine uses 1 litre every 6-7000 miles.

You don't mention if yours is a common rail or a pump injector engine, but my 1.9tdi only eats up maybe 1dl of oil during the 15 000km change interval.

5W-30 is a bit thin for an Audi diesel, isn't it? I use 5W-40 in mine. I had Mobil oil before and now I'm running with Shell Helix.

5W30 is the correct oil. Mobil 1 ESP 5W30 is what I use. Look for the approval on the back of the label. VAG 507.000 IIRC.

    Thanks everyone,

Its my first diesel so I wwas not sure if this is normal, however based on all your comments I guess I am worrying for nothing.

By the way I went on the castrol website who recommend 5w-30 when i keyed my registration so not sure if 5w-40 would be wise.

    Hi Guys/Gals

I have just spotted this thread and it raises a concern with me. Bought an 07 plate A4 2.0 tdi 170 ps Quattro with 15k on clock. I have found i have put .75l in only having done 2700 miles.

My previous car was an A4 1.9 tdi 130 ps that didn't need any oil between services (10k intervals) and always used longlife.

Do Audi offer any sort of help at all if the oil burning is excessive?

I have a 2.0 TDi A4 140 PS and it currently uses about a litre of oil every 5,000 miles. It has now done 60K miles and the consumption used to be higher - it has gradually settled down. I have just accepted that the car is a bit of an oil burner compared to my previous 1.9TDi 130PS.
