What is VAG and how do i get one

hello, i just want to know what is vag because everyone on here knows about it except me and where do i get it from and how much for, also how do i use it, simply because my windows are not working in my car

Hi,

Have a look at the sponsors pages Re VCDS or VAG Com.
Great tool but not for the uninitiated as you can do serious damage with it.
It is as close to the dealer tool as you can get.

Be very wary when buying a cable, many are only for the shareware version of the old 409 level version and this may be virtually useless to you.

As far as causing damage with VAG-COM is concerned, yes it is possible to cause a software problem but you would have to be pretty stupid as there are numerous warnings to go through before damage can be caused.

My car is a 2000 plate golf gt tdi and can you please tell me how much the software is to buy or if you have got one then i can pay you to diagnose the problem, i also have seen that website before but which is the best sofware system to go with and will the cable which they provide fit my car

The software is effectively free to download. What you have to decide is which level you want, the free version and buy a cheap cable for around £20 or move up to the next level which is registering that software for $99 with Ross Tech in the USA or buy the full version for around £260 from Ross Tech or one of their UK suppliers.

What is actually wrong with yor windows? Are they not working at all or do you want to change how they work?

The software will only allow you to change the way that they work (if possible), or allow you to read a fault code, if one has been generated.

If they are just not working, well it might be something as simple as a fuse.

Only buy a genuine ross-tech interface and software. anything else is a waste of money. You only have to use it 5 or 6 times and it has paid for its self, compared to garage prices for a read and reset. Remember it's not magic. You still need to find a fault. The machine helps point you in the right direction.

my windows do not working, mirrors or the central locking i have checked the fuses and if i disconnect the battery they work for about 30 mins and then stop working if i pay £260 will i get all the leads necessary to diagnose my car or will i need futher equipment

Try Ilexa.co.uk They supply the cable you need and a software cd. You will need a laptop to run it. Once you register the software you get free updates via the net.
