  1. DSG / Mechatronic Issues ??

My car has the DSG gearbox, and overall, I think it's brilliant. But I'm having issues as it judders when creeping in either 1st or reverse gears, and sometimes snatches when it engages 1st gear from a standstill. I've had the software updated but the symptoms are still there. My dealership told me that the 'Mechatronic' control module on the gearbox is the likely cause, and may need replacing under warranty? According to other VW forum sites, this seems to be the only recuring issue with DSG's.

Has anybody else expereince similar problems with their DSG's, or had their Mechatronic replaced (ie, did it solve the problem etc)?

    Cheers

Garck, i seem to have exactly the same issues as you have with the dsg box i have the v6 petrol version though.
Also when slowing down say to make a right or left turn at a junction say one where you dont physically have to stop, instead of being in 2nd or 3rd gear like you would in a manual car the gearbox will change down to 1st and you are at 5000 revs etc.
another thing that it does it changes up to quickly and you have no power when you want it or it changes back down then so you go 1-2-3-2-3-4 etc,
i reported this to the local dealer when it was serviced they said it was normal.

Does anybody else's do this i wonder?

    cheers

I don't have the same problem with it jumping into 1st gear unless stationary, and the correct sequence of gear changes are always smooth. The biggest problem is with the juddering in first or reverse gear, and the snatching when setting off from stationary. I've looked at an American VW forum where some Golf owners with DSG's have suffered the same or similiar problems. It appears that some dealers are saying that the issues are 'normal' for the DSG, whilst others have identified issues with the Mechatronic unit, and therefore changed them under warranty.

Hi, I have a Golf Plus with DSG and have the same snatching problem as you discribe when moving off form standstill, it will also roll back. The roll back only happens if I press the footbreak hard down it seems to drop out of gear, if I just hold the car by a light pressure of the foot break then it always wants to jump forward.

I have taken it back under warranty and at first the dealer said it was normal but standing my ground they had to admit that there was a problem with the Mechatronic unit and a new one would be ordered from Germany. Awaiting for this to be fitted.

I also looked on the US site and they seemed to have a lot of problems with the DSG units. I am going ask for extra warrant at VW's cost to cover any further problems when the normal warrant runs out. I will keep you updated.

My car is booked in next week to have the Mechatronic unit changed under warranty, so I'm hoping it will solve the problem re snatching and juddering. I will obviously keep you posted...

My car went in to VW last week for a new Mechatronic unit fitting. I've since had a phone call from the dealers to say that the new unit has been fitted, but that one is also faulty. Bummer. They have now re-ordered yet another Mechatronic unit, and given me a VW Jetta FSi to use in the meantime. I'll keep you posted on progress once that one has been replaced... (again)...

I know the feeling, my car was booked for the 12 Jan and was then told that the new unit had not arrived ????. Now rebooked for 26 Jan.
Since they have had the car in to try and "correct" the non existant problem they have mannaged to make it worse.
I have been assured by the MD of the VW dealer that the car has a 3 year warranty and if it should go wrong it will be covered. Hopefully it will be fixed but knowing how garrages will try and get out of warranty work I realy do not want to put it to the test.
Will let you know the outcome.

Hi Chipnpin, I do not know how these guys can say they do not know of any problems. If you do a search on Google for DSG problems there are numerous, dating back to about 2003 in the states. The BBC Watchdog program even got compensation for the Audi TT customers that had problems so do not take any flack from the garrage, there are many problems with the DSG and I am told that a replacement unit has to be ordered against your individual car, vin number etc so that it will match. They are all manufactured to the spec of the car and not off the shelf. Good luck next week.

They've had my car once already to remap the software - but that didn't make any noticable difference. I'm hoping that they're not fobbing me off with lies - or am I just being synical??
