    Hi folks

Might get a Bora 1.8t. Plans would be:

    1 - New wheels
    2 - Lower, harder suspension
    3 - Tuning

For tuning Im think a Revo chip. Is there a good intercooler for the Bora? Wont be going for mega power, but would like a decent upgrade.

1.8t is best avoided in the bora due to serious reliability issues I believe. I stand to be corrected!

Hows it any different to a Golf or any other VAG with a 1.8T?

In 6 years of owning a 1.8T Bora that was chipped from 1000 miles the only things to fail were the MAF and a coil pack. (It'll break down tomorrow now I've said that).

    I say go for it.

1.8t is very good no need to worry.. Neil from Vw driver mag has done 220k on his....

There fine to tune just make sure you use good fuel to get the best out of them.. As for the FMIC i would not go too big, will take longer to fill up and make the car have more turbo lag..

I would Change the DV get it re-mapped see what you think.. any more go for a full turbo back system 4 bar , turbo tip pipe and a cold air filter poss new side mount from forge and with a good re-map you should see 235+..

    Hope that helps a little

    Thanks for the info dudes.

Yeah I don't want an enourmous intercooler really as you say, bit over the top for my everyday drive, maybe a small upgrade.
235bhp would be very very nice. What is this "turbo tip pipe"? Is that a downpipe?

Id still buy a tdi 130 6 speed. Its as fast as the 1.8t( faster in everyday driving due to way more torque). Its also far more economical at 50mpg driven normally in comparision to about 35 with the 1.8t . Put down the boot in the 1.8 t and youl be back to about 20 mpg, in the 130 tdi driven like its robbed you will still get at least 40mpg....

130 is good to tune also and I would think it would beat a tuned 1.8t easily for acceleration when remapped. I love the tdi growl when its revved

But then again some ppl like their high revvs and dont like smelly hands at the pumps after refuelling.....

    Up to you.....

Ive got a diesel at the moment and I hate it.
Take ages to warm up, sound like a bag of spanners, forever changing gear etc
When you factor in the lack of revs, they are not very fast flat out, but I agree in the right situation they can be quick around town etc.

Another question for everyone - can you lower a Bora sensibly (-20mm or -30mm-ish) on 18" wheels without any rubbing??

What diesel have you got is it the tdi 130 6? << This is a quick motor and feels faster than a 1.8t 150 hp model...

To avoid disappointment go for a 1.8t 180 6 speed variant, they are fast.

Or save your money for a gti 2l fsi 200bhp yeahaw, + the excellent chasis pf the mark 5 git etc. In fairness the bora chasis is lame in comparison and hates cornering.

Good luck with paying for the petrol.. Itl be a shock when you start driving a pertol as quick as your diesel ..lots off dosh wasted in the form of co2
