    Hi all,

I am considering an A6 Avant after my Merc turned out to be rust on wheels.
Could anyone tell me how long the boot is with the rear seats down? My wife is a harpist and we need to be able to shift her instrument around.

    TIA

If you have a look at:

    http://www.theaa.com/staticdocs/pdf/...VANT_R9861.PDF

It has the dimensions on page 3. The boot length with seats folded is 180cm.

All the other AA reviews for the A6 are at
    http://www.theaa.com/allaboutcars/ca...&makeName=Audi

If you need any more measurements, I've got a 2000 A6 Avant and I can get the tape measure out tonight if you let me know.

Depends which of the A6 models you are after. I test drove the current version and the boot looked massive - much bigger than on my own A6 Avant.

Also, the previous model (mine was 2002) had a rear seat back that wouldn't fold perfectly flat. I could get fairly close if I took off the headrests, but if you are looking at carrying a harp I strongly suggest that go and stooge around an Audi dealer forecourt and take a look at the size and shape of the bootspace itself. Maybe even take the harp? I originally bought an A6 Avant after lots of visits to various car dealers with 2 guitar cases and a gigantic amp!

180cm! Rats, nowhere near big enough. Ho hum, I shall have to look at another marque

The newer ones might be bigger, but they will be WAY out of my price range. Why did my 100 Avant have to die?

    Thanks.

If it fitted in a 100 avant, then I'd have thought it would go in an A6 (C5). I'm sure that my car is the same size (or slightly bigger) as my brothers old 100 Avant.

I'd suggest going and having a look at one that's for sale, and taking the harp along to test.

I wouldn't have thought you could get a bigger boot than in the A6 Avant.

    Their boots are massive.

I'd test it out for real as the A6 certainly used to have the biggest boot in it's class...

Just checked, my A6(C5) Avant is 180cm in usable floor space.

I would have thought that would have been ample bearing in mind I can get 3 double basses (at a squeeze) in there. Aren't harps about 170cm in height?

However the seats don't quite go down flat.

I have seen harpists pulling their instruments out of old Astras, so I would have thought the skip like qualities of an A6 would be fine. I think the only load bay that is more useable is an old Volvo 850 - the V70 is nowhere near as big...

3 Double Basses! Respect is due (talking as a Double Bassist)!

The harp is 190cm to the top of the pillar, but on reflection it went in with the pillar running from the bottom right hand corner to the top left hand corner in the 100 (sniff) Avant. I shall go to the local Audi emporium and investigate further.

    Thanks all

My wife is a Head of Music - one of the criteria for buying a car is HUGE boot space (or skip mode as it is known).

We can get three of the school's double basses in (they are not full orchestra size), but its still a pretty impressive site, as well as squeezing in a very small timp...

    :-)

GOod luck at the local Audi Emporium!
