Head Gasket Replacement cost ?

Morning...

Noticed recently my car (2005 2.0tdi sportback) was drinking coolant every week, then it began smoking from the exhaust on start up and when round town. Now found out on investigation, it is steam and it looks like the head gasket is going .

Local garage quoted £800+ is this a fair price or should I be looking elsewhere or demanding a reduction.

They also did a pressure check on the coolant line and it seemed ok, does this mean there is a leak in the radiator or elsewhere ???

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bad news for you.
There is a known issue with cracking heads on the 2.0 tdi (BKD).
It ussualy starts drinking coolant, but no visible leaks when presure tested.
To get it fix may be between 1200 - 2500 depending on a garage. Sorry mate.
