    Howdy all,

not too sure how many B8 quattro's out there yet (certainly not in Oz), but is the quattro option worth it?

I'm asking as I currently have a B8 A4 2.0TFSI multi with S-line on order. However my dealer has given me the option of a similar specced vehicle but with quattro + 6sp MT.

The killer is the extra cost, a substantial $10k in Oz dollars - a lot of clams in any money! Is the extra traction worth it? Any other benefits?

    Cheers for any contributions.

    Hey, I have a B8 A4 2.0TFSI Avant. (FWD)
I wish I had quattro, i know the traction control will keep me out of trouble but would rather not feel the car do the esp thing.
I agree totally though.. Its a lot of money extra.

My next Audi will have quattro..... that i have promised myself.

If you gonna use the car mainly for motorway comuting and town driving, then the quattro is wasted and you will get better fuel ecconomy from a FWD model. However, if you intend to use the car on loose surfaces, gravel, snow (!) or any winding roads, then the quattro comes into its own. It just have that sure footed feel and it gives the confidence that mechanical proved gear takes care of you with spirited driving... I used to have a quattro 2.5 tdi and i miss it very much, i did replaced it with a fully loaded FWD car but its not the same. You should take a drive in 2 similar specced car in both formats for a spirited drive and then you decide...

Agree with the above. Ive gone from rear wheel to front wheel with the new B8 and Ive lost confidence going into sweeping curves in the front wheel Audi. I drive mainly single lane A roads and now that we have leaves on the floor its getting slippery and Ive had the ESP kick in a number of times. Plus side is that Im slower and therefore safer and the MPG is better!

In town and on the motorway FWD is fine but once you open her up on the A and B roads I wished I had rear wheel drive or Quattro.

So, it really depends on how and what you drive on. If you sit on the highway in traffic trying to get to work then stick with FWD and spend the money on some toys or luxury in side the car. If you drive on various types of road and you have extreme types of weather where you live then a Quattro would be a wortwhile investment. I cant afford it but wish I had it. When my lease is up on this one Ill be looking at buying another, maybe older but with Quattro.

Fact is you will need to a have fun drive in both to see what you will be missing if you just go for FWD. I cant comment on the cost, all depends on personal circumstances finanically I guess.

I refuse to now drive the other car I've got even slightly like a chav. Had a couple of times where I've gone round some really sharp corners a little too fast and would have literally been in the gutter if I was in my old Mazda. Another good example was, some nob (sorry if you're on here, but you were acting like a complete nob) in a 58 plate was at the lights in Brighton up by Cheapside (steve1234 will know where I mean). Basically, it's like a mini 30-40metre sprint where it narrows down to 1 lane... Good place to race off, generally someone has to chicken out if you've both got a quick car... Anyway!! I pulled up along side him on the outside, heh, bare in mind I had my mum, brother and cousin in the car... The guy looked at me in his wanky sunglasses on and the windows down, then attempted to zoom off, wheels spun, little wheel spin and, well.. By the time he'd sorted himself out, I'd done a semi-nippy set off... His was a 2.0 I think, was't really fair as I was in a 3.0tdi, but even so, obviously didn't notice the dual pipes when I passed him earlier on in the day!

    Quattro is sooo worth it...

What a wally that bloke was. I thought by the time you got to driving around in £30Ks worth of Audi you would have calmed down a bit. Trying to race you away from the lights!

I have the 6spd 2.0 TFSi in FWD. Went for it because the tax here is lower and the MPG was more promising as I do a lot of highway miles.

Purely from a driving point of view, the Quattro is a much better bet and I wish I had it. Whether you can stretch to the extra $10k though, that is the ask. Mine torque steers and I am the younger type to race away from the lights when I feel that way inclined - I came from a 200bhp rwd Diesel BMW that way pretty good from that point of view. This will get even worse when I chip it and start pushing 240-250bhp through the front wheels.

If you are thinking of boosting it and/or nipping away from the lights, go for quattro, if you are just cruising, fwd is fine. Jury is out on the multitronic though.
