Hi, I have just purchased an 04/04 A4 Avant 1.9 tdi 130 and its great ! However, the red brake warning light has started to come on, but no descriptive message as to the fault, when you first start the car and then it goes out. It is not consistent either, only coming on some times. It has just had a service by Audi. I think it may just be a fault with the brake warning system itself but not really sure so any help would be really appreciated.

    Hi Ben,

You're best getting a fault code scan done, particularly when it comes to brakes.

I too have this quirk on my car (04/04 avant 1.9tdi 130) Does the car turn over and fire up fine as mine struggles sometimes (often liinked with the brake warning)? If the warning dissapears after the three beeps or so, it should not be a serious prob - just a little irritating. This could be due to a drop in volatge from the battery on turnover or possibily pressure not up quite as quickly enough...)Hopefully someone who actually knows about this might be able to comment further!) Importantly if it remains on stop! I will keep you posted if I find out more - already had a crank sensor, air sensor and a non-return valve replaced, but no luck yet!

Thanks for the info - My Dad mentioned that the hyrolic PAS fluid might be low as this is linked to the brake system - as yet have not had a chance to check but worth ticking off the list ! I will let you know the outcome ............

I would of said the front pads are low and the sensor is just making contact.... OR the sensor on the front pads is has a lose connection hence tripping the light on

Check the level of the front pads...

Front pads are fine - I believe it would be an amber warning symbol if the pads were low .....
