Can anyone confirm that the B6 headlamp guide which is here:

    https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ead.php?t=7485

... is accurate for the B7, or is there anything else I need to know before I try to tackle the job (considering I'm a mechanical numpty)? Also, I bought a Halfords headlamp bulb no. 477 (12V 55W) because that seemed to be the right unit according to the bulb finder in Halfords, but I wasn't entirely sure. Before I go unscrewing the front of the car can someone confirm this is the right bulb? Ta.

the bulb you need is a H7 bulb, replace them in pairs! as you will get wony lights.

as for the fitting thats all worng, I did my dipped and full beams this morning in about 15mins! its dead easy!!! the only tools you need is a X head screw driver to remove the air intake on the rh side.

unscrew the 2 small screws on the front pannel that hold the air intake in place, then pull up out of the air box and then rewards to remove from the grill area.

then undo the cover over the back of the light, hold the black connector and twist to pop the top of the bulb out and then remove the bottom - you will understand when you see it - then draw the bulb out, replace with the new one - DO NOT touch the bulb!!! - then refit which is the reverse, put the bottom back in first and the tilt to clip the top in.

then refit the cover on the back of the unit.

this is also covered in the drivers hand book,

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply but is this definately valid for a 54 registration car? I looked in my owners manual by the way and all it says is that bulbs must be changed by a qualified service technician.

    I have a 54 plate B7, registered in Jan 05!

54 plates run from September 04 to end Feb 05 (afaik).
