It will be from the battery back up alarm module. Its an indication that the battery in the alarm module is wearing/worn out.

Replace the entire module is the offical Audi method to fix it. However I would be opening it and buying a replacment battery from Maplins!!

Yes the alarm back up sounder is in the boot behind the trim panels, i think its on the left hand side.

Looking into the boot from the rear it's on the other left side, i.e. Right side!

Have this procedure I wrote on file and posted in the "How To" section for reference..........

ok update on this, what does the alarm siren sound like ? i activated
my alarm today and the siren was pretty poor and coming from the boot area , was this from the module ?

is the alarm not horn based , sounding ? new to audi and not heard the alarm going off yet !! so set it off today to try it and seemed very quiet !!

help !! ps had a new battery fitted to the car last week , could this be linked ? thanks again ..gav

Not horn based - solid state intelligent sounder type siren unit.

Like a very very loud digital alarm clock....... BEEP.....BEEP.....BEEP.....BEEP......etc. for ~30seconds and then it resets.

Your internal siren batteries are knackered and this can affect the unit in various ways. By removing the duff internal batteries this will make it work again more reliably but with no battery backup. I ran mine like this for a while (12 months) before I got around to sorting it out with the indicated mod.

Batteries don't last forever - however the technology is getting better. The fact that your main battery required replacement meant that at start-up of your engine it was struggling to provide the current which in turn resulted in the siren unit noticing a momentary loss of supply or below it's trigger threshold - hence the strange beeps from the boot at start-up.

    How the siren works.....
The alarm uses three wires - 0v, 12v and communication wire.
The communication wire is not like conventionally non-intelligent battery backed sirens where you trigger the siren on the 3rd wire with simple voltage level. If this was the case, by removing all 3 wires the siren would sound with the internal batteries! I believe the siren is signaled by the convenience module on the state of the internal alarm - i.e. Alarm On or Alarm Off. If the car battery is removed whilst the Alarm is On - then the siren has the intelligence to sound the siren beep beep beep for 30 secs. recycle, check car supply and resound another 30 secs. indefinitely. If the convenience module senses an intrusion it will tell the siren to sound. However, if you remove the car battery whilst the Alarm is Off, it will not sound. Old systems (VW Passat ~ Yr 1998- had an override key to be used if battery supply was removed.)

If the internal batteries fail, you may get strange beeping noises from rear of car at engine start. You may get other unexplained false alarms etc.. VAG-COM should identify if the alarm system has been triggered by an external sensor.

The alarm volume on my A6 is very low too, i thought that the previous owner might have had it set it that way if he lived in a built up area but aparantly they are all very quiet.

From reading other posts i dont think this can be adjusted either.
