Hi everyone, I was just surfing earlier and I saw these engine performance devices on ebay called 'TDI TUNING Chip Box' for about 30 quid, do it yourself fitting in a few minutes and claim 30+ more bhp and better fuel comsumption.
I always thought chipping the engines was relatively expensive and when combined with the additional insurance cost I have never seriously considered it, after all, my 130 Sport is quite quick anyway. £30 seems cheep. Do they work, are they safe to use with the engine and has anybody used them?

Look at the 'sticky' at the top of the 'tuning and performance' section.
It explains that these 'tuning boxes' are not tuning boxes and they can damage your engine. A proper, safe chip remap will cost a few hundred quid. I have the same engine as you, and I would never use one of these cheapy tuning boxes...

Those cheap "tuning boxes" are just a resistor-in-a-box things that will trick your car's ecu into thinking that the outside temp is colder that actually is and it will inject more fuel to help a cold start and raise the cylinders temperature quicker ! In the end it will dammage the engine because the extra fuel wapours will condense on the cylinders walls and will wash the oil !

as a relative newbie, allow me to say hello ....and welcome to the forum
second thing, the search button at the top is sooooo handy, it stops duplicate posts being put up for instance, for "tuning box" the following thread is handy

    https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...ght=tuning+box

this has been a much discussed area the last few weeks on here and huweth very kindly set up a thread which is now a sticky to discuss things like this.

conclusion... as practically anybody on here will tell you, dont waste your money, the amount youd spend on this crappy resistor in a box and the ensuing repair bills, you may as well save and put to good use on a proper, warranted remap from the pros

Well, that just goes to prove the old saying then,if its too good to be true then it probably is. Wasnt that interested in fitting the thing anyway, just curious.
Sorry if I upset ushrules asking a question thats been covered before but a forum is a forum and the idea is to discuss, debate and generally communicate with people.
    Thanks for all the replies.

Get a remap done at walk away from the cheap "tuning box". A load of rubbish. if you own the car it will cost you big time in the long run, a good remap from someone like West tuning or Angel tuning will sort you out.

LoL, i love to read threads like this, My advise is don't bother with them, they don't deliver the goods, you pay the money, you get a box with wires, you plug it in and they don't offer much difference,

have a look at the sellers feedback and see what other buyers have said about the item,
