I've read in a few forums that some people can clean their sticky ICVs instead of replacing them with new...

    Does anyone know the process?
What kind of risks are there?

My MK2 idles at around 1400 RPM after warming up, and when I pinch the line I can turn the idle down - so I am assuming it is sticking at 1400 after it gets warm or the valve is not operating at all. It has over 185K miles on it, so its not inconceivable...

    Any advice is appreciated!!

Hi there, I had ICV problems with my Digifant Mk2. To clean just spray in a good ammount of carb cleaner and if possible leave it to soak in it for a while. Hopefully this should sort the problem.

soak it in petrol or wd40 then use carb or brake cleaner as they will disperse after use,i know it as an isv(idle stabilisation valve) as it stabilises the idle when throttle closed, when they clogg up the engine usually hunts (revs bounce between 500rpm and 150rpm),it wont harm to clean the isv but if you still have the problem after (or if you want to check 1st) make sure the throttle switch is contacted when throttle off position it could be that your cable is too tight and its leaving throttle open.with the engine off operate the throttle from the manifold with your hand.open ,close ,open ,close and you should hear the switch clicking
