hi all... can anyone help... my mate asked me to take a look at a golf tdi (new shape) 55 reg bkc engine, he's had the engine out to fit a new turbo & crank regrind as it drank all its oil & seized the crank. anyway its all back together but won't start. its spins over, theres fuel coming up to the pump on the back of the head. it starts on easy start but dies soon as you stop spraying. i've scanned it & it came up with 2 faults saying camshaft sensor power supply, we checked the power supply to the cam sensor & there is no power. trouble is my autodata cd doesn't show wiring diagram for this model so we can't trace where its supply comes from. anyone have a wiring diagram for the engine management on this engine please ?? also would the cam sensor stop it starting ?? if i had a diagram i could trace to see if this power suplly also supplies some other critical sensor which is causing non start. thanks shaun

update... its giving out code 16725 which is cam sensor... we've double checked the valve timing/sensor trigger position etc.it looks like cam sensor only avalible from dealers so need to be sure. a kind guy has emailed a wiring diagram which shows all 3 wires from the cam sensor go to the ecu ? the earlier type have a fused feed. we need to know what readings we should have on each wire... pins 3 is earthed but the other 2 appear to be dead...not tried whilst cranking. anyone help please ?? shaun

How did you set the timing, did you use the crank locking tool and cam locking pin?

I hope it isn’t the sensor, it means taking the top pulley off and not only does that mean removing the belt again but you will also need a special extractor to remove the pulley hub without damaging it.

I have only had this code once on a car we had worked on and one of my lads had the timing very slightly out and every time I have been asked about this code by other garages and DIY types it has been the timing.

thanks for that. we've already had the cam pulley off again & the hub which includes the timing disc just to double check everything. do you know what triggers the crank sensor ?? is it the flywheel or is there a disc on the crank ?? i've only got involved since its been back together but was wondering... if it had a disc on the crank maybe it could have been removed when the crank was re-ground then refitted in the wrong position... that would make the ecu you think the cambelt was out ? shaun

There is a 60-2 disc on the rear of the crank.

I can’t see them removing it for grinding but the whole assembly is quite involved and very easy to get wrong without the correct assembly jig. PM me your email and I will send you the details.
