Hi this is my guide to removing the front ashtray in the Audi A4 B7.

    1. Remove the head unit using the removal keys

    2. Pull up gear stick surround- this is held in by 4 clips

    3. Unscrew the 2 8mm bolt

    4. Pull the ashtray free by pulling the tabs

    5. Remove the climate control unit free

    6. Remove ashtray by sliding up and out of dash

    7. This is the ashtray unit-it will be plugged in by a simple plug that can be unclipped

    8. To reinstall the ashtray reverse the steps shown.

Do you have any pics to show? Also, can I just drill holes to feed the wires throught the ashtray compartment?

I can see the photos on my PC on this thread..?

You can probably drill through the plastic after you've taken the ashtray out yes.

    Sorry I see them.

Awesome job. Thank you for the steps, this helps.

So I guess there is no way to keep the cover in tack and make more room to fit a Sirius Satelitte face plate? It looks like it is a pretty intricate ash tray.

Thanks so much for the help on this posting! I had no idea that recovering some spare change that fell behind the ashtray would be this difficult. I guess sometimes you just have to let those hard-to-reach nickels go...
