A late June Audi press release announced the availability of a 120 horsepower version of the 2.0 TDI for the latest A4. This car has not been offered with the 1.9 although the recently facelifted A3 soldiers on with it as base diesel.

It looks like an interesting engine for the B6 Passat although 14% horsepower down on the 140 it is only 9% down on torque at about 214 lb ft which is significantly better than the 1.9.

Its CO2 emissions come in at well under 140 gm/km in the A4 which can therefore compete environmentally with the Passat Bluemotion without any special attention to maximise so-called green credentials.

You would think so wouldn't you?

The 1.9 is old (ish) technology so surely was always due to die. I wonder if there'll be a 1.6 version of the engine - perhaps even a 3 cylinder jobbie...

I was suprised that they didn't offer a lower power version of the
2.0 PD on launch. The 8 valve 1.9 PD has been around in 90, 115, 130 & even 150 versions.

They never had a 90 Bhp PD engine, that toghether with the 110 Bhp were VE engines...The 2L PD engines are not so reliable than the 1.9 ones nor economical as well...

I'd guess that was something to do with wringing the maximum life out of the tooling for 1.9 production. The first 1.9 appeared in an Audi 80 in 1992 (I had one of the first from new) when maybe production line tooling was not so flexible as it is now.

We have a 90 Ps works 04 Ford Galaxy the engine bay looked identical to my 115 Alhambra, but did feel underpowered in comparison. I'm sure VW did a de-tuned version about 2003 because it appeared in euro spec Alhambra's too.

    Wasn't the 90 (and 110) the non-PD 1.9tdi?

And the 105, 115, 130 and 150 the newer PD?

Personally I think the 105 should have had the 6sp box....

The one you say that was fitted on the alhambra was indeed a ANU-90 Bhp PD minus the turbo and was mainly limited to taxi fleets in europe...it was not available in Uk as far as i know...on a vw, just on ford galaxy !

90bhp N/A in a Galaxy - that would have been painfully slow....

It was also available as a 160bhp in the Seat Ibiza. The engine was exclusive to Seat Sport
