    I have a 1997 'R' Mk3 Golf GTI 2.0 8v, which is, at the moment, standard...

I am looking to buy a G60 Supercharger unit ('G-ladder') but nobody seems to be able to give me any advice as to how to fit this to my engine, but on the other hand, nobody is saying that it cant be done!!
If I bought one it would be second hand and then rebuilt.

Help on this matter would be much appreciated!

I had a G60 corrado and it never failed me, but I understand the superchargers were prone to failure if not regularly rebuilt.

Is it worth the hassle? Swap your car for a MK3 16v, they weren't that much slower than a G60! VR6 golf's of that vintage are cheap enough to come by.

    thankyou for your advice!
It mite not be worth the hassle but i have nit seen this done before and thought it might work!
i had a 16v and i enjoy driving the 8v more as they are slightly torqier, yes less power but just as tunable!
i didnt want to go to the hassle of doing an engine swop though i have always had good feedback on people that have done VR6 conversions!

If anybody else knows how i can 'bolt on' a g60 supercharger please contact me!

    thankyou

if i sum it up it's been a real eye opener.

i have a few bits left to do on it then i get to drive it.

well it bolts in exactly the same place and uses the same engine mounts couple of the water hoses need to be used from the gti. i used my gti gearbox clutch and flywheel only because it was rebuilt 6 months ago and that way dont have to change the hydrolics. the loom is another story but i'll tell you how it went when i finished it.

Well it's been a while, i've been on holiday, I finished the car it goes like stink it was great but i only had it back for 24hrs before it broke down suspected headgasket failure. I wouldn't mine if i was ragging it but i was just going to work not in any rush as there was loads of traffic and nobody was going anywhere fast.

I'd say that was a head gasket failure if ever I saw one!

Nice work on the G60 convertion though, love it.

Just had a thought, has the G60 engine got one of the dodgy type oil cooler that sits between the block and the filter itself (water cooled)?
If so, the cores rot away in them dumping the contents of the oil into the water, you'll have to flush the coolant and lubricant but won't have to change the head gasket!!!
Remove the filter and then the oil cooler, it should be apparent if it's rotted out from the inside.

Just seems to be too much sludge for a sudden head gasket failure.
