    HI,
I drive a 2004 plate golf 1.9 tdi with 50,000 miles on the clock. After taking off the pipe going into the inlet manifold flap motor, i seen a bit of carbon, could i spray the egr cleaner directly into here with no worries??

Wynns directions for use say - Is the flexible hose in there instructions the same one which comes round into the inlet flap motor and egr valve??

    Directions
    • Start the engine until its warm.
    • Remove the flexible hose in the air intake system, situated between the turbocharger/intercooler and the air intake manifold.
    • Let engine run at 2000 rpm.
    • Spray the product, with short intervals, into the air intake manifold.
    • Rpm and diesel knocking can rise during pulverization.
    • After each pulverization, wait until original set rpm is regained.
    • If necessary accelerate to avoid engine stalling.
    • Continue until the 200 ml of product in the aerosol are consumed.
    • Let the engine run at idle during a few minutes.
    • After this idling period, accelerate the engine approximately 5 to 10 times or drive 5 to 10 km.
    • Do not exceed 3000 rpm.
    • Stop the engine.
    • Put hose back in place.

Unless the manifold is thick with deposits I'd leave it alone. EGR valves are so bloody delicate. Speaking from experience!

well ive got a code from the diagnostic as "egr valve recirculation insufficient" thats why i had it off, so was wondering wether i cud spray it through the flap motor to save removing it all, as when i put finger onto the flap this was thick with carbon

    Hi

My local mechanic did this to my previous Golf, a Mk4 1.9 GTTDI 110bhp which had approx 120K on the clock. In the end I changed the EGR valve myself - a bit messy - cost me £98 - but made all the difference. You can take the EGR off and give it a good clean - somebody recommended brake fluid and as I'd just bled my brakes I used the old stuff and it really cleaned it up like new. I found a site on the Web explaining how to clean the EGR.
