hi all. I was considering getting my windows tinted soon and i like the look of the gt stock ones. Does anybody out there know the percentage of tint for the stock gt?

Or whats the highest legal percentage of tint?

Windscreen and front side windows can only be 30% tinted, which is prbably factory standard anyway. The rest of the car can be whatever you like with in reason I think...

As has already been said factory tint on the fronts and anything you like from the "B" post rear...Factory dyed glass is around 70% on the rears.

As far as I'm aware the front windows must let a minimum of 70% light through them (so maximum 30% tint) the front windscreen cannot be tinted at all apart from a sunstrip (gradient or hard tint across the top 8th of the screen) think the same applies for the rear windscreen but you can do whatever you like to your rear windows.

I'm no expert on this, just what I remember from filming with Greater Manchester Police's Traffic Cops a year or so ago.

30% it is then. ill stick with that all around. I dont believe in tinting the back darker than the front, just looks like a van, no offense to anybody's personal taste

ANY sort of tint on the front windows will take you over the 30% maximum as there is approx 18% tint as standard plus i just found out u can get 3 points fixed penalty if the windows fail...(just so u know)..
Just found this site look at the legal...

If a traffic Cop pulls you and looks at your tints they have a little gizmo which they stick to your window that measures the amount of light that passes through it. If less than 70% of light passes through your windows fail and you can be given 3 points and a fixed penalty (£60 I think).

However if the Cop's in a good mood and you've been polite and courteous with him/her they can use their discretion and just give you a pink slip (I forget the official name for it) which gives you 28 days to get the tints removed, if you get pulled again after the 28 days expect the full 3 points and fine and for them to go over the rest of your car with a fine tooth comb!!!! They can also prevent you from driving your vehicle away as in their eyes it's "unroadworthy" but this is most common if you're pulled at night when it's dark. During the day if you can prove that you are willing to remove the tints (ie peel a big chunk off at the roadside in front of them) they'll usually be happy to let you go with just the pink slip.#

Like I say I'm no legal expert, this is just my experiences working with Greater Manchester Police, some forces have crack downs on these issues from time to time and can be less lenient. I thought about tinting my windows and then decided it wasn't worth the risk!

A friend of mine said that any tints he has seen where they done it themselves it's ended up rubbish. From a distance you won't notice but if you're next to or in the car the light highlights air bubbles and stuff. He reckons it' worth paying out the few euros extra for a proper job.

I did mine (limo black on the back and medium black on the front) on my old 318i, I found it easy on the flat windows and fairly hard on the bigger curved 1 (had to shrink the film with a hair dryer) Also use lots of water and cut the film about 1 or 2mm away from the top of the glass or they will peel after the windows been up and down lots of times.
