    Hi
Thanks for your reply, the model is a 2000 golf gti 2.0 with standard "AC" button only and no climate control.
The system is gassed up to the correct pressure as shown on an pressure gauge i have borrowed but the compresor magnetic clutch will not kick in.
I have powered the clutch up with 12v from the battery and it works fine and the aircon is nice and cold.
    Any Ideas????
I can see an inline valve with a 3 pin connector by the drivers side bulkhead which is connected to the aircon line but im not sure if it is the pressure switch?

    Anyone have ideas

    Thanks for replying smithy

    Hi Matt,

It looks like the equipment is located in the same place for the 2000 model so it should be more or less as per the drawing. However I'am sure someone more knowlegeable will let you know as it's not really my field........

    good luck

hi ,,did you get your pressure switch sorted or not ,,
ive got same problem ,,the gas and the pressure is fine ,,when i try to turn the compressor by giving in direct power ,it does work and the pressure also goes high ,and the pipes get cold ,,but when i try to turn the ac button on the compressor doesnt fires up ,,can it be the pressure switch close to the metal pipes near the inner body on the bonet ,,how can you check this ,,cause if you change it it cost around 15 pounds to 30 pounds from 2 different shops ,,same model ,,is there any diff ,,
can you by pass that to check if the compressor will work ,,
    thanks
cant post the image because its big ,,will post link for the presuure switch

    Hi
On the mk4 golf the pressure switch can only be checked using a occiloscope.
My aircon is now spot on, i traced the wiring back to under the bonnet to the ambient air sensor, this stops the compressor from coming on when the temp is beleow 5c.
I resolded the wires and now its fine, this sensor is located under the bonnet by the pollen filter on the passenger side of the car.
If thats ok get the pressure in the system checked.

hi ,thanks for your reply ,
ive got it checked from an aircon specialist ,,he said after testing it with a meter that its gone the curent was not going through but was coming to the presuure switch ,,the gas is full ,,he even checked the compressor coneecting it to the battery ,,after he had put a presuure gauge on the 2 pipes where you fill the gas in ,,the pressure incresed on the compressor side and the pipes went cold ,,he told me that the compressor and the gas pressure is ok ,,its my ac pressure switch ,,ive ordered one from vw ,but it will take 10-14 days ,,the guy said that he has to regass the car after he installs the pressure switch ,,vw chargind around 41 pounds and giving 2 year warranty on it ,,so lets see when it comes ,,i will try attaching the diagram ,,i think its no 17 part in the diagram ,
where is the switch you were talking about is it shown in the diagram
    thanks

    Hi

The pressure swich can be removed without regassing the system, the sensor im talking about is located next to the wiper arm and pollen filter under the plastic bulkhead tray near the passsenger side.

the pressure sensor switch is number 17 in the diagram ,,got it changed by air con specialist ,,and yes you are right it had a valve which prevented me to regass it ,,but still the ac didnt work ,,then what he did was there is a air con module just under the battery ,,he took it out and the 2 cables which had 2 plastic clips on it ,,turned the ac on and off ,,then connected them back again ,,and the ac started to work again ,,he said that you have to reset the air con module to the new switch by doing that ,,and now every thing is working ,,
guess what before that i went to vw dealers to get the ac serviced ,,after doing there bit ,,disinfecting ,regassing , still no ac ,,they said that they will do a diagnostcs and then told me that the ac compressor is gone ,,told me that it would cost 1200 pounds to fix it ,,
had a second opinion and got it fixed for cheap ,,compressor was working fine ,,,whats wrong with the vw service guys ,,are the too buys ,,or its the hot weather ,,hahah
