Hi sorry if this is in the wrong section (newbie - doh)

    I've been offered some mint A4 16" alloys off a 18month convertible.

Can anyone tell me if they will fit a VW 98 swb T4 Transporter? According to my mate they have ET50 on the inside of the rim if this helps?

    Many thanks

    MOOSE

Transporter has a PCD of 5x112 an ET of 25 to 42 and a centre bore of 57.1

As long as these new wheels are the same PCD everything else can be overcome.

Thanks for the reply. Will the offset of 50 be a problem, ie rubbing on the rims or similar then?

    cheers again

If your current rims have an offset of 25 (ET 25) then (assuming the new rims are the same width as the old rims) fitting ET50 will suck the wheels 25mm.

The inner lip of the rim will then, more than likely, foul on the suspension struts. Asthetically, it'd look odd as well, with your rims being 25mm further "into" the arch

Yup, that would give the new rims the same ET as the old ones

Yes that will work, but remebers its a Van so the loading is greater, so not recommended, also you should get Van rated alloys for the same reason.

    This is getting confusing

My standard vw steelies have the following on the rim

    6J15H2 DIN DOT D15x6 ET55

and are running the following tyres

    195/70/R15C 104/102R max load 900kg

The Audi alloys have the following on them

    6.5Jx16H2 ET50

    and the tyres are

    205/55R/16 90V max load 600kg

Does this extra info help diagnose if they're ok or not

    HEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLP!!!

    Cheers again

Right, facts and figures at last

    Current set up

    • Width - 6J
    • Size - 15
    • Offset - ET55
    • Tyres - 195/70/R15C 104/102R max load 900kg

    Potential set up

    • Width 6.5J
    • Size - 16
    • Offset - ET50
    • Tyres - 205/55R/16 90V max load 600kg

    OK!

The tyres on the new wheels are not only the wrong load rating they're also the wrong size so your speedo will misread. Ideally you'd want 205/60/16 or 195/65/16 - depends on what is the cheapest in the correct load/speed rating.

The inner edge of the new wheels will sit 1mm further in than the original wheels. The outer edge will stick out an additional 11mm.
