Hello . Thought i would join VAF as it seem like most people on here have there heads screwed on`

I'm currently looking to buy an A6 2.7T Quattro tip Avant. One has come up for sale near my place of work.

What sort of price should i be paying for a clean 03 dark blue 47000 miler?

What should i be looking for i.e. any common faults, belts that should be changed etc....

    Any help would be appreciated

    Thanks in advance

    Welcome to the forum, Linco.

What price should you pay? 6,500 to 7000 pounds.

The diesels are more desirable at the moment because of the cost of fuel and road tax. Would you not consider a 2.5 TDI?

    Anyway check the following:

    - Ensure the carpets in the passenger footwell are not damp... this is caused by blocked Plenum Chamber drain holes underneath the battery cover. The Central Convenience Unit is in that footwell, and they don't react very well to water!

    - Ensure the air-conditioning system is fully operational. Therefore, ensure the Econ light is not permanently illuminated, because this indicates a fault in the system.

    - Try and find an empty car park and turn from lock to lock, if you hear loud banging then you quite possibly have a problem with the CV joints. This is can be common because Audis hang their weight all over the front of their cars.

    - Also (talking from recent experience of this problem with my own A6!) ensure that the power steering isn't making a clattering noise on full lock when the car is stationary. This indicates clutch failiure within the alternator.

    - Finally check that all of the interior functions work as they should.

    - The timing belt/cambelt needs to be changed every 60k or 4 years, as a general schedule. However, I would advise you to get yours changed, if it hasn't been already. If it has, it should say so in the service history.

    Hope that helps

Its been garaged most of its life so hopefully it should be in great nick. I'll get a test drive in it as soon as i can and do the things you mentioned above.
    I'll get back to you.

    Cheers
