    Hi,

I finally got an iPod adapter fitted for my RNS-E Sat Nav this weekend

I have been making-do with MP3s on the SD cards, but it's surprising how quickly you can get through 4GB of music!

ANYHOW.. I just wanted to share with you guys how I got my iPod hooked-up, for just £70!

Because I'm not bothered about seeing the track names on the DIS (between the rev / speedo dials) or on the nav screen, I decided to go for the Connects2 adapter AADIPOD004

This adapter only works in non MMI vehicles.. which is fine, because the B7 A4 is only "MMI Concept" not the fully-blown MMI! (according to the guy who runs the Stafford Audi eBay store - a very helpful guy!)

Anyhow, the AADIPOD004 adapter usually retails for about £99 but I found one on eBay and bagged it for £70

Installation was simple and similar to the Connects2 install I did on my S6 a while back (click this link to see the install guide https://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/s...highlight=ipod ).
I'm very pleased to report track changing works fine with the later model MultiMedia steering wheel on my S-Line.

    Regards
    Toff

PS: Yes, it would have been nice to see the track names on the DIS and Nav screen, but to do this properly is quite expensive.. (Kufatech media adapter / Dension Gateway 500 etc) I didn't bother as it's not that important to me.

    Hi Toff,

Thanks for sticking this up... I've been mulling over my iPod options for a while trying to decide what was the best solution. I spoke to Craig in Manchester a few times via email before buying my Audi trying to work out what was the best solution and ended up getting one with RNS-E and a 6 disc in the glovebox.

    I totally agree that 4Gb isn't enough!

I can't decide if being able to see the tracks on the DIS or nav unit will bother me or not so quite fancy trying a unit like yours to see how I get on before investing in a full on kit - I typically just put my iPod into shuffle and listen to whatever comes up so track names aren't too important

    So, a few questions...

    1. Will the iPod connector you've used replace my 6-disc changer or can I use both?
    2. Can you make the iPod just play all songs in shuffle mode?

    Ta

    Gareth.

    Morning,

He's a useful chap that Craig Shame he doesnt grace this forum with his presence!

    In reply to your questions:

    1. With the Connects 2 adapter, your CD changer becomes a paperweight You could spend a bit more and buy the Dension 300 gateway and purchase the optional CD changer retention adapter - which would allow you to keep the CD changer. (The retention adapter may even work with the cheaper Dension 100 gateway).

    2. Yes you just make a playlist which contains all the tracks in your music library and put the ipod in shuffle mode. This is how I have my music playing.

    Hope that helps
    Al.

PS: Years ago I spent countless hours designing (and 15 hours building) a 6-pole "latching relay" which allowed me to switch between a MiniDisc changer and a CD changer connected to my VW Golf MFD Navigation (check it out below). I might adapt this to allow me to keep my CD changer and the Connects2 iPod adapter
