    Hi, all

Does anyone know how bad an oil leak from the turbo is?

I've had this leak for a few weeks now and just took the car in for repair.

Will the oil leak from the turbo get into other parts of the car components ie engine, filter, brakes etc... and thus damaging it in the long run?

The dealers said they've fixed the leak and suggested I leave the car with them for more tests, but since I needed the car to travel to/from work and they couldn't give me a courtesy car, I couldn't.

Does this indicate that the problem/s haven't really been sorted or just a temporarily measure or serious problem?

    March 2008 TSI Golf.

There's GOOD oil leaks from the turbo??

Seriously though, ANY oil leak should be considered with some concern. What's really important is how much oil it's leaking. A weeping leak (a drip every so often) is clearly less 'dangerous' than a constant drip.

Either way, I would have thought that the replacement of the gasket/seal adjacent to the leak would be the solution - it ought to be relatively straight-forward I would have thought...

Same problem with oil leaking and took it to VW again. They're now saying it's the turbo that's the problem and needs replacing.

How long does it take to reorder and replace the turbo?

As VW suppose to have ordered the part for Wednesday and replace ready for collection today (Thursday). But now they're saying the parts could take several weeks to order.

Is it common for the turbo to go so soon?

I've not been driving the car roughly and revving it madly.

Stuck to the run in times, speed and rpm ie 1.5k, 70-80mph and max 4000rpm.

Feel cheated now getting a VW since they're suppose to be reliable, only saving grace is that it's under warranty with all the work being carried out would costs me £1000sss.

Well I'd demand a replacement car while they fix it. If its only 2 months old you hardly would expect it to have a major fault like that and its hardly an advert for VW quality.

Its more like British Leyland in the 1970s!

sorry you have found yourself with such a problem after such a short time.
i feel that you would be perfectly within your rights to expect,( don't demand), a replacement car whilst yours is being repaired, but please don't
blame the failure on the dealer,or the fact that replacement parts are not readily available.
you have bought a new car from a dealer.
that dealer is your closest ally.
he will liaise between yourself and vw, and you need to keep your relationship on an amicable footing.
vw will not pay him for anything "over and above" warranty, but he may
help you out where he can, because you are a "valued" customer.
don't make demands, that will switch him off.
talk to him,and he will listen.
    regards,
    stewy.

I've almost given up now, as I feel they seem to be messing me around.

I've not demanded anything yet, as I think I'm a polite person but this is yetting beyond a joke. I might have to change tac and get more aggresive now as they seem to be fobbing me off.

eg Yesterday (Thursday) they promised to get a hire company to contact me by passing my info to them so that I can get a SUPPORT car, as this particular branch DON'T do courtesy cars for their customers. Come 6pm nothing.

Today (Friday), I phone them up after work (2.30pm), saying I thought they'll get back to me yesterday about a support car. The lady on the other end said the first request got refused and put in a second request and that someone should've contacted me yesterday blah blah blah.
Now the lady is checking her computer system and said she'll ring me back as her system is slooooow. Yeah, right as it's 4.40pm.

I'm also out of pocket as I can't get to work without a car as I work awarkard times and ~20 miles away.

Am I the only person here with problems???

Next time I'll stick to JAP cars as I only had problems after 4 years of use.

Sorry for the rant, but getting it in the open is good.

WOW, after 5 days since requesting for a Courtesy/support car from VW.

And, finally got one arriving tomorrow hopefully.

I didn't even know it could take this long.

Took even longer when ordering my golf mk5, as they give me ETA 10 days, but ended up like 1 1/2 month late.
