    Hi all,
Has anybody used the Halfords VW 505.01 PD rated engine oil and is it worth it's salt?
It's also got a free Halfords professional socket set included...... which makes me nervous that they need to include incentives!

I believe it is made by Exxon or Esso.

Have used their oil in both the petrol A4 and the TDi, just about to do an oil change tomorrow on the latter - will be using Halfords fully synth 505.01 again.

I used to use it but it now costs £32.99 for 5 litres. The Quantum PD oil from the VW dealer near me only costs £25 for 5 litres.

That's worth knowing - last lot I bought was £32.99 but had 10% off and a free screwdriver set (which I needed, as it happens).

Might check out this Quantum stuff in future.

Millers do a special XFE-PD 5w40 engine oil for around £25 (5 litres) so thats what I'm gonna stick to from now on.

Millers words from their website 'specially formulated to meet VW/VAG requirements and officially approved by them. Full warranty protection is provided by this approved engine oil when used in accordance with the VW instructions. Approved by VW to their 500.00, 505.00 and 505.01.'

Check their website for your local stockist (down the left of the page).

I used the ********* stuff and haven't had any problems, as far as I know.

It did cost me more than £30 and I got no freebies!

I used the Halfords oil in my last Passat for 30,000 miles without any problems.

However VW told me that the oil would seize my engine and they refused to put it in....the irony being that when the invoice for the service arrived it stated that they had put oil for a petrol engine in my car.

    Laugh, I almost cried....

Sometimes I think that they should let the girls on reception service the cars, they probably have more of a clue.
