    Sharan nsf electric window problem

Im a complete virgin to this whole internet forum environment.

I have a 1998 Sharan TDI that I have had for apx two years, when I bought the car the passengers side electric window didn’t work. So one afternoon I removed the door panel and checked for anything obvious then gave the motor a few taps while pressing the window switch downward. The motor leapt into action and lowered the window, all looked well so I greased up anything that required some lubrication and ensured there wasn’t any obstructions.
The following day the window didn’t go down so a month later I again removed the panel and performed the tap test while pressing the window switch downward…not so much luck this time. I tried pushing the window down while pressing the button and tapping the motor, adjusting the runners very slightly, wiggling the wires to no avail.

Has anybody got any pointers I’m a bit lost for options and cant really afford to put the car into the local garage.

    Hi

unfortunatelly, electrical windows engines from VW are sadly known to be incredibly unreliable.
Golf are the most affected models, but Sharan also have that sort of issue.
However, there is also a known issue which is a little plastic part at the end of the cable. THis plastic part is not correctly fitted at the end of the cable, and goes away, that leads the cable to be "free", and then the entire mechanism of the window doesn't work anymore.
To be sure that the problem comes from the engine, the first thing to check is applying 12V at the engine and try to hear if it works or not. However, there are some relays inside the engine that maybe also defective (for example, it may cause the window to go down but not up, etc...), though the engine seems to be working properly

Thanks for your reply, I will check this when I get home as I’m at work.

Do you know where I can find wiring diagrams or manuals for changing out electric widow motors.

Is it easier to replace the motor complete with mechanism or just the motor by itself.

The guy who works in the garage which takes care of my Sharan showed me a huge book that represents all the electrical digrams of the Sharan (at least 400 pages !). Unfortunately, I'm afraid it is only available for VW resellers or maintenance agents.

Concerning the replacement of the motor, the same guy showed me what the hell it was to replace mechanism and motor. The problem is that in the motor there is a sort of "whelle" where is located the end of the cable which is linked to the mecanism. And according to him, re-fit this cable in the motor is one of the worst job he has to do on VW cars !!!

Hi there, i dont know if this ill help, but I use the haynes ford Galaxy manuel. Ford and VW apparently designed the sharan/galaxy together and according to my mechanic this is the book to use. It has all the wiring in the back of the book and to be honest it sends my eyes funny! I to a have a dodgy window switch, and as soon as I can face the diagrams I will be looking into it.

    Hope this helps

    Trin.

Pull back the rubber gaiter and have a look at the wiring harness between the A pillar and the door,

Im back home tomorrow so will try out the switch over the next couple of days, I thought I checked it with the meter last time I looked.

Further the wires in the gator where the doors hinged will get a good inspection.

Checked ebay out to purchase a Haynes manual for the Galaxy.

    All obvious but helpful comments.

    Thanks so far.

Just to make a long story short, the problem was one of the plastic clips was broken that slides up and down vertically which is part of the regulator assembly.
I repaired it with a soldering iron and reassembled (not a job for the impatient) but it didn’t hold.
A new regulator was acquired from the main dealer in Aberdeen for £50 (inc vat) which is redesigned but compatible with the old system. Take my advise please, don’t compromise and purchase second-hand one on ebay or from a breaker if you can get a new one at this price. I was told a new regulator system used to be about £150.

Thanks to every body who responded, it was very much appreciated, mostly though, it encouraged me to get the job done.
