    Hello All,

Hopefully someone can offer some advice with a problem with my Golf Mk4 (2001) near side door lock.
Recently it has decided that it now doesn't recognise that the driver door is shut and pings (very annoyingly at low speed) to say that the door is still open (it isn't!)
Doesn't now lock via fob (does open via it though) but locks manually fine.
But as thinks its open i have had to turn all interior lights off manually, but door vanity light stays on constantly which will be slowly but surely flattening my battery!
VW dealer says new door lock at a cost of £250.00 a vehicle electrician says take it to a dealer.
I have seen i can purchase a lock via a website (carparts online) for £97 inc vat. Does anyone think i could then take it too any garage to fit it or will someone minus VW knowledge mess the whole thing up? (Would i need a whole new key etc).
Or should i bit the bullet and take it too dealer? Sorry for the length of this can't decide best route to take.
Many Thanks in advance for your thoughts

    hi,

from what your saying it sounds like the door lock module has gone. one has gone in my 2000 golf too and its annoying! luckily its on my passenger door so not too bad! ive looked into getting it fixed/replaced and there are LOADS of threads all over the internet. including this forum. if you are confident about dismantling your door there are how-to's on how to *try* and get it working but no guarantee... try searching.

also from what ive read, if you were to get a new door lock module, i dont think it would affect your locking system at all and its not the same part as the key barrel on the door. i get the impression its literally a plug and play part.. somebody please feel free to slate me if i am wrong? (hope not)

    hope that helps a bit..
