Can anyone advise me as to what the fault on my wifes polo could be. The passenger side electric window just clicks and dont move,i have noticed when you click the window button the revs drop briefly, the window did go down and up once for the 1st time in ages yesterday, then did'nt work again. Any help and tips would be very welcome.

you need to look into something called a regulator...This is was regulates the control of the window, new, they cost around £80. This is one of the common probs with the polo. Get VW to take a look at it.

take your door card off and check in the bottom of the door for bits of broken plastic!
the winows are held onto the regulator by plastic clips. these break and eventually you window will fall into the door completely.
you cant buy just the clips, so have to buy the complete regulator. you can however, if slightly pikey like me fix the prob with self tapping screws!
i did this on my old mk4 and the windows have been fine since (over 3 years)

that sounds like a good plan...I know that mine was broken when i got the car (made the garage pay for it) and it costs about £80 for a new regulator...if you can fix the one you have, and it works, then thats the best way

I'm having the exact same problem - I've got the door card off and yes there are bits of plastic in the bottom of my door. I'm guessing this is the regulator issue - the only problem I've got is that I'm loathed to buy a haynes for a car I haven't got. I've got the polo classic (2000) and haynes don't do a manual for this specific car.

    So I have 2 queries -

Anyone know if anyone one does do a workshop manual for this model.

And what does this regulator look like so I can either replace it or be a bit pikey and screw it back in place??

    Thanks!!

the workshop manual for a seat ibiza mk2 will have the info you need as the polo classic (saloon and estate) are basically a rebadged ibiza.
the regulator is the bit that bolts to the window and has the winding cables connected to it.

Just found this elsewhere in the forum and had a read - doesn't apply exactly to the Polo but the theory is just the same.

Hope it helps anyone else that has the same problem!
