I'm soon to be getting a '97 Polo with the AEF 1.9 diesel engine and am wondering what the differences are between the SDi and non SDi engines are...is one better than the other with fuel economy etc. etc.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi

Where the fuel injection takes place is the difference

SDi injection takes place in the cylinder itself

Ordinary injection takes place ourside the cylinder.

The SDi is at a much higher fuel pressure and help the mixing in the cylinder.

Sdi is much more responsive and gives a little more torque.

Overall there is no contest - the SDi is best all round for performance and mpg.

The SDI engine does not have a turbocharger, apart from this it is a very economical lump.

the non si engine has precombustion chambers, and fully mechanical injection.

I believe the only computer wizardary is with the glow plug control & immobilizer. This makes the engine easier to repair without expensive diagonosis in my view.

the sdi will be better on fuel, higher injection pressure, direct injection I thhink. Many more sensors etc.
