Can anyone tell me how to remove the trim off the boot door of an estate. I would like to sound proof the boot door as there is such an open space behind that trim I'm sure a lot of the road noise is coming from there.

I am also soundproofing the boot area as VW seemed to have missed this out on my 2006 TDI Sport Estate and I feel its noisey, does anyone else find this and has anyone tried soundproofing?

If VW have missed out on soundproofing and the like, can't you go back to the dealer?

Or have you already been back to the dealer??

I say "missed it out" i should have said not enough in certain areas unless someone can tell me otherwise in which case I will go back to the dealers. I have not compared my car to a simular model

The boot area where the spare wheel sits is all plastic (I was surpised at that!) and other than the mat that lines the boot there is no other proofing. Is your wheel well lined at all?

I can't remember offhand, but I'm sure there's a load of polystyrene/plastic in there and the carpet/load surface on top of it - I'll have a look later. I'll take a photo too.

Do you know anyone else with a Passat or can you just pop into the dealership to compare?

I have the polystyrene on the left of the wheel well that holds the tool kit but thats it, it will good to see a photo. I'll do the same later.

I don't know anyone with a new hape passat so I might pop in to a dealers this weekend. Do you have an Estate or soloon?

That sounds exactly like the spare wheel well in my estate but to be honest I don't have any issue with excess noise.

Having said that my previous car had 18" wheels, sports suspension and minimal sound proofing (to save weight apparently) so my passat sounds like a library compared to that.

The major difference between our cars is mine is an SE with 16" wheels and standard suspension whereas your sport has 17" wheels and lowered sports suspension. So whether that would make a big difference I couldn't honestly day.

I also use my load cover all the time whenever possible so whether that has a marked effect?

    Cheers

You are probably right it may be down to the sport model and being an estate. However saying that my last car (BMW 530i Sport) was as quiet as a mouse but it was a saloon.

Maybe all that plastic used as flooring in the boot don't help the noise levels. I do use the load cover all the time you can tell a difference when you don't use it.

I may soundproof the wheel well and see what happens, it can't do any harm

Don't think there's much soundproofing there.

As said above - it could be that the saloon has better soundproofing due to the segregation of the boot from the cabin...

(PS, that's my emergency fleece in the wheel well in case you're wondering ha ha )

Yep, looks like mine. When the weather improves I will soundproof the wheel well and see what happens. If it works then I will progress with the doors etc. I will keep you all informed
