    Hi,
i have a Vw Bora 1.9TDI which is a V reg. I have noticed oil leaking from the EGR valve, everytime i clean it and drive it, there is oil again leaking from the valve. From the 2 holes in the valve to be exact. i have had the turbo replaced due to it dying on me several months back.
any ideas what i can/should do.....(my fuel economy has been very dodgy aswell at times being very good and at other times giving me round 25MPG..)
    thanks

Nothing to do to stop it and nothing to worry about, it is perfectly normal. Fit a new EGR valve and another new turbo and it will still do it.

The 2 holes on the valve are vent holes to allow for movement of the egr diaphram, (the round shiney bit), there is an an actuator rod runs down from this to a shut off valve inside the housing which controls the flow of exhaust into the intake to be recirculated, the seal which goes around the actuator rod must be worn and boost pressure is blowing oil up through it and out of the vent holes, it is not meant to do this although many do, a new egr valve should cure this as the seal will be good, in effect what you have there is a boost leak, the oil is put there compliments of the ccv system routed into the intake pipe just above the intake manifold, if it is leaking really badly and you are losing a couple of psi boost pressure this wouldnt help your mpg.

I have a 20K mile 2007 Skoda Fabia VRS and 40K mile 2005 2.0 TDI A3 in for service this morning and both have oil weeping from the EGR valves and I will mention it but recommend no action. Oil loss from the turbo is such a problem that the VRS has a factory made hole in the cover under the intercooler connection pipe to allow it to drain away. The pic is of the Fabia boost pipe.

That must be oil that has ran down the pipe from the connectors or is there a hole in it?

Do they have the newer style push in fittings with the wire clip, i have only seen 3 or 4 of these and everyone of them has had leaks all around them , I have the older style on mine where the hose pushes over a barb and spring clips, no sign of leaks its all kept inside, also egr had no leaks after 145k when I removed it.

They have the push on/barb clip design. That is running down from the turbo connection, a 20K car.

Hi again, well i Took the EGR valve of and to be honest i was surprised with the amount of CRAP that was stuck there, after using just chemicals etc i cleaned it and i re-installed it.
The intake manifold which i didn't clean was full of the same crap, however thats a job for the weekend.
    Thanks everyone for your help.

I find that an alkaline cleaner called TFR is excellent at dissolving this crud.
