    HI. Today I was running my audi a6(2003) with a multitronic gearbox and the gearbox suddenly stopped engaging. It was behaving like it was in neutral whether I put it in Drive or Reverse. Nothing happend. The car just wouldn't move at all. I had to toe it all the way to my house. I've checked some forums on the net but I didn't run into anyone with the same problem. Please help me if you can.

    I take it it's still doing this even after turning off the ignition for a while?

    Sounds like it's going to be an electronic problem (gearbox ECU) or sensor - either garage time or VAGCOM diagnostics if you have it?

    yes it's still doing this after turning it on and off. i've even taken the battery out for a while but still nothing. i haven't been to a VAGCOM yet, because I couldn't find one open on Saturday. what bugs me is that this happend all of a sudden. I haven't experienced any problems with it before, except for the occasional juddering after a hard brake. Has anyone experienced this sort of problems? any idea on what could be wrong??

    Hi. I used to have a brand new '03 A6 1.9tdi multitronic, got rid of it because of the unreliability. I had EXACTLY the same problem. Started jerking, quite violently, one day in a jam on the M25. Once out on the open road at 80mph I suddenly had no gears. From memory 123456 all lit up. Affraid to say it was more than electronics, it has some sort of deep rooted hydraulic problem. it was under warranty so I didn't see the bill. Hope yours isn't so drastic a problem but it sounds like the same symptoms. My circumstances then changed and I then bought a 105k mile BMW 530i sport. Brilliant car! Circumstances changed again, and I wanted a big diesel auto estate again, but didn't want the multitronic, so got a 2.5tdi quattro auto. I'm picking it up tomorrow, 105k miles again. Good luck, hope you get it fixed without needing a second mortgage ;&#172

    All Problems With The Multitronic Gear Box Are Known To Audi. It Has Been Defect From The Day That They Have Taken It In Production (about 10 Years) And It Still Does Not Function! Demand Refund And Compensation Straight From Audi Ceo Mr.r.stadler And Chairman Mr.m.winterkorn!! There Are Other Audi Owners That Would Like To Do Something About That And Force Audi To Put The Money Where Their Mouth Is!

    the problem is with the clutch. i had similar problems for 1,5 year and at the service they siad that they have never heard about it ...until it stopped completely. then they replaced something(hydraulic cilinder) and it worked for about a year until it agin beroke. this time some other part (control unit) which was supposed to be replaced already the first time it stopped functioning.
    audi has had these problems fro mthe day that they introduced this "technological advantage" and they are not doing anaything to repair it nor are they willing to pay for there mistakes...they keep on cheating their customers!! complain directly to ceo mr.r.stadler and chairman mr.m.winterkorn;
    audi ag
    pob 10 04 57
    85045 ingolstadt
    and do not take a no for a answer...keep on bothering them until they refund/compensate you. i have been doing the same and i got all the services refunded and now i am working on a compensation!

    That Dalton bloke is having a bit of a rant at the moment but what he says is basically true from what I can gather. I would have a look round on here as there is more information on this subject available. You can also see Dalton's other rants which are quite entertaining in a perverse sort of way.

    Best of luck with the multi.

    luck is not the problem because they can't get it right after all this time. this "multi-problem" has been actuall already for almost 10 years!
    if you read "autobild" magazine year reports you will get all the information necessary and more detailed infromation you will get from the german "adac". they know exactly what is wrong and how to repair it....but that will cost you a lot!! why paying for something that has never been functioning properly?
