Can anyone tell me when the isofix standard for baby seats became standard on the B6 models (if at all) or are they just part of the options package?

To all you daddies: Is it a worth while option?

Oh and while I'm at it: Leather or material for cleaning baby puke off?

    Cheers

    hi,

As far as I'm aware Isofix was always an option on the B6, mines a 2004 04 car and hasn't got it.

The main benefit is that it anchors the child seat to the body of the car so in the event of an accident the seat doesn't move as with a seat belt. Having had cars with and without, I'd say its worth it if you can find one with them.

No question, leather for puke cleaning duty. That said (and I do have expereince in this area) it generally goes everywhere, including carpets so a carpet washer / VAX and plenty of odour remover is always recommended (1001 - no vac carpet fresher seems to do the trick for me) A seat protector would do the job for cloth seats.

    Hi there...

Well I aquired a piar of ISOFIX Brackets for my A4 Avant from main dealer - they are about £65 the pair (one for either back seat) and they are a doddle to fit.....just have to remove rear seat base...

I prefer ISOFIX seats as then you dont have to p*ss about with the seat belts....which on my Avant seem to lock at the blink of an eye....very inconvenient when you want to get the seat out and its pishing with rain....

I have leather seats in my car.....but I am still going to get a seat protector anyways....as I want to make cleaning the car out as easy as possible....also have rubber mats which should hopefully catch some of the said puke !

We have ISOFIX in our Bora, and although car seat cost a lot more (Although I think I got ripped off - it was £170) its a god send. Seat clips into the car in seconds, no messing about with seatbelts and its solid as a rock.

I feel much better about my lil one being in it. I'm looking at getting a new car soon and ISOFIX is a must. Safety first, especially for me lil one.

Does the baby/child seat have its own seatbelt? If you have ISOFIX, there's no need for the car's seatbelt or do you still use it?

Is there an "anchor" point (ISOFIX) at the top (or bottom) too? I understand there are 2 ISOFIX points at the base of the baby/child seat which clips into it.

Finally(!), if you have ISOFIX in the car, do you need any other adaptors/extras to clip the seats into?

    Cheers.

The ISOFIX is basicaly two hooks which are part of the chassis. they are located between the seatbase and the back of the seat(in the car). If a car has them you can slide your finger between the gap and feel them. With our car seat we got some plastic clips which fit onto the hooks so the baby seat slide in without any trouble, and without risk of damage to the seat itself. hope that makes sense.

The car seatbelt is not required, the babyseat has its own harness.

if you need anything else let me know!

this shows the location of the isofix hooks.

    hyte1,

Thanks for the link. Looking on the web it seems an ISOFIX baby/child seat needs a separate ISOFIX base which is almost the same price as the seat itself!

Where did you get the plastic clips from?

This link from the AA I found quite useful:

Baby due in july so it'll be a Group 0 seat and only rear facing for that group.
For the car (A4 B6 Sep 2003), I've located the ISOFIX latch points: Front passenger seat (must disable airbag!) and 2 seats in the rear. For this car, the seat type will be semi-universal i.e. with rigid leg support from ISOFIX base. I dont have any top-tether points. In fact, my rear seats dont fold which is a surprise as I thought it would for an SE.

You'd only keep the group 0 seat for year then it'll be time to move to group 1 which should last up to 4 years!

Wot did they say it would cost to raise a child to 21?! £186K I think it was!

    Cheers.
