    Dear All,

I have a VW Passat with Automatic transmission problems? Basically the car would not change from 3rd to 4th. A VW dearler said it required a new Auto Value Box at a cost of £875.00 + VAT.

However Express GearBox Company Ltd in Portsmouth said that in the worse case sernirio it would only cost £300.00 to repair. After a free road test & fault diaognostic check it was established that a replacement solinoid would rectify the problem.

This fix cost over £410.00 including VAT and credit card charges! I duly collected the car and after driving only 3 miles it was clear that the fault had not been rectfied. Express GearBox Company Ltd are now claiming that my car as developed a motor clutch problem and that the entire transmission requires a full overhaul.

I feel that I have been mislead by Express GearBox Company Ltd. I am also puzzled by what the original road test and fault diaognostic test actual checks and the subsequent diaognostic paid for checks, neither of which identified any Motor Clutch problem?

I submit for your consideration and recommendations.

    Maverick

As you paid by credit card, you can ring-up the card provider and tell them you wish to dispute the transaction, as the repairer did not diagnose and repair correctly. If you have already paid for the transaction to the CC company then file a claim via www.moneyclaim.gov.uk
Write your claim as the third person, state what your relationship is with the defendent, what the payment was for, and why you want it back.

    sort of...
The claimant sought diagnosis of xyz from the defendent...
The defendent quoted....... and the claimant agreed to... however, after 2 miles it was clear that the defendant xyz. The defendent was given an oppurtunity to rectify but did not.
    The claimant claims for xxxxxxxx....

    Hi,
I would also call the local trading standards and ask a question to honest john. www.honestjohn.co.uk

He is very helpful and will no doubt give good advise.

The more you do the better IMO, sounds like they've given you a duff deal. Hope it all works out.

BTW check out HJ top answers section, I was looking earlier today and there is a section on auto box repairers, there is some association they belong to listed in this, maybe worth finding out if they are a member, another avenue to complain to and ask for help.

Good luck and keep us posted.

    Andy
