    Hi all

Just run this passed you all.

My wife's car came up with a fault on the gearbox. The gear selector number on the dash started flashing a gear with a question mark inside it.
I put vcds on it and came up with P17BF and P189C, the second will not clear . Both are DSG Mechatronics faults. Also in the VCDS sheet it said check for a broken wire on a terminal block and low battery power.

Thought about getting it done while away as on holls but wanted to keep tabs on it.

Auto elec wants about 300 quid to look at it. (but might be the gear box).
Gear box people will go in and do box. (lot of money but that's what it costs). Might not be box, car drives as good as always.

Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated.
    Dave

    006079 (P17BF) - Hydraulic Pump - 000 - Play Protection
006300 (P189C) - Function Restriction due to Insufficient Pressure Build-Up

That is the mechatronic unit about to burst the accumulator mounting.

There are lots of chancers out there trying to make a buck doing these on the cheap, we tried one a few months ago due to the customer not wanting the car off the road for 2 to 16 weeks whilst VW UK pulled their fingers, after the fourth replacement unit failed, the reconditioning company ended up buying the car and they are a respected company, not one of the shady types. We have gone back to genuine only but the wait can be painful, one of my customers passed away last year waiting for one... They are normally back ordered to Germany as each one is programmed to the cars build spec and VAG UK don't keep many as there are hundreds of variations. Typically the job comes out at circa £2500 for a genuine mechatronic fitted, matched to the car and tested.
