    Good morning,

Background - bought a cheap 2nd hand 2010 golf. CFFB 140, VIN WVWZZZ1KZAP092279. it has p2563 code and a blanked EGR and stage 1 map, 180k miles. I had it mapped to stock and then replaced the turbo and the egr cooler/valve myself. THe old EGRE was completely chock full of carbon. Cleared the codes. p2563 is gone but now i get P0403 and P0405. Checked the wiring connection and it's solid, the EGR that arrived was brand new. Yesterday I replaced the battery for a Bosch S5005 hoping it might be a power issue.

Using an autel I can see some data coming through from the new EGR (previously it was just all 0s) , but onl 0.8v which fluctuates. When i start the car it has a delayed start, when i turn it off it flutters. WHen i drive i get 0 symptoms, no limp, no slow acceleration, no coil or dpf lights. Just the continuous still EML. I have also noticed that the new turbo sounds different.

I have it booked in with a VW specialist in March but i know this is going to cost a bit..could it be the N75 valve, a dud EGR (ffs...) or something else that i could try and adjust. I don't having wiring diagrams or the technical know how to start chasing wires...I also do not want to blank or delete anything, i know i can but i'm not interested in that route.

I am an enthusiastic amateur with access to a full mechanical garage on the camp where i work, ramp etc...that is the limit of my knowledge so bare with me. Thanks. Any help advice would be appreciated.

You have fitted an aftermarket EGR unit, which POS did you fit? We only fit the genuine 03L 131 512 DQ. The last time we fitted an aftermarket one was the first time we did one back in 2013 on a Golf 6 2L TDI of a very very long standing customer and it was just out of warranty. We fitted a Hass from ECP and within two weeks it was acting up so ECP upgraded us to a Meat and Doria and that didn't make it off the lift without showing P0403 and P0405.

thank you, very helpful - EGR Valve Fits VW Golf (Mk6) 2.0 TDI | eBay - this is the specific part. they've sent a replacement but might be pointless?

No ideas what make that is, probably Chinese Replacement Auto Parts. I like the warranty bit about no labour, not a major pain if it takes half an hour but that is a full days work for a pro on a lift six feet in the air.

Haha - very true. Try “not a pro on a lift” (4days…)

SO - could I take the original part where the wiring port connects and place it onto the aftermarket valve and cooler? I can’t attach a photo to this thread but it’s the black plastic bit that has the connection for the wiring port, 3 T10 hex screws hold it in.

The time we last fit an aftermarket version, we got a genuine unit sent up from TPS (why do I keep typing TOS and have to correct it ), plugged it in and the code cleared.

So I fixed it by placing the original circuit board connector to the new EGR valve and cooler. It worked!!! really easy to reach through the exhaust pipe tunnel.

Good one, no warranty though which we need. Mind you, the TPS warranty system isn’t fit for purpose.

*worked for 2 days. Now I’m getting P0401 again but this time I’ve got the coil and the EML. Before I go through the rigmarole of changing the entire EGR again, returning the other part, finding the proper - can you tell me where the wires for the EGR go? I want to see if I can follow the wires to test the voltage supply.
