    Is the Audi Connect subscription (now £14 per year) for the mobile data connection or to access the back end systems or both?

    If I put my own SIM into the car can I connect to the Audi Connect Services (such as traffic data) without paying the £141 or is this what the licence fee is for?

    Looked everywhere but can't find an answer!

    Thanks

    Jon

    In my opinion and if I remember well, this is for the licence only. It's cheaper and a better solution to add the Carplay/Droid auto module.

    If Audi Connect is £14 p.a. we'd all sign up.
    FWIW I took the extended year they gave me as a freebie, then put in Android Auto and use that (shame it's only cable and not wireless)

    I think, it's not bad from a car, which was designed pre 2015 However, there are already non-factory, but easy to install wireless solutions too, so if you want a wireless way, there are several ways to do this.

    I've been thinking about installing the factory module but hadn't realised there were non-factory wireless solutions that would hook up to the infotainment. Would you mind throwing in a few suggestions/names/links of ones you have seen or have experience with?

    Thanks

    Hi AT
    I believe that my Q7 is Oct 2015 ( no telephone icon next to usb outlets in centre console) regarding wireless options are you referring to Apple CarPlay?
    Is this the more modern economic alternative to having the software updated by Audi or someonewith knowledge enabling Apple CarPlay. I saw a post referring to an Andyhud007 who may be able to do the latter ie software update , this was an option to avoid partying the £141 mmi subscription. I updated my sim today and I get little or no features anymore it appears. My first day on here;
    Thanks
    Andy

    If there is no icon, then Andyhood is your man! He will retrofit the Carplay modul without any problem, and from then you will not need Audi's service at all

    Hey Ragebe, I've been using the Motorola ma1 which plugs into the usb port and makes automated wireless connection with the phone (for android auto). It's supported/recognised by Google and I've found it pretty stable since getting it. Thought I would share as I hated plugging in the cable as well

    Thanks
