the A3 quattro yet again is playing up, MIL light on and after putting out comes back...not in limp mode.

my reasonable generic scanner gets this which I have no reason to doubt but being better with 40 plus year old cars I wanted to check if I am looking at the correct part!!

Is this the electrical sensor on the throttle body? if it is does that entail a replacement body complete or am I able to replace just the sensor?? after checking the wiring.

The codes relates to the V157 inlet manifold flap which was always the throttle body like butterfly valve before the EGR valve but it changed to being the inlet manifold in some cases and I need to check this at work as I can’t see which is classed as the V157 with what I have at home. It PROBABLY means it needs the inlet manifold replacing and this is so common they are available aftermarket, part number 03L 129 711 E

We like to use the Febi 176636 kit WHEN they have them in stock… which they don’t! I am going to have words with them at AutoMechanica in June.

correct CBBB. and many thanks to both.
What would be electrical in the manifold itself that cant be replaced to entail a whole manifold? I am now getting confused and it is not that modern really!!
Dare I say it...my wife has run Audi for 30 years as dailys and I too for many years but for my daily switched away due to so many issues experienced with our two 2.0tdi cars. My replacements have caused a lot less problems and easier to sort when they have.
Any clarification as to this issue on the A3 much appreciated.....a law tells me it will be a complete nasty plastic manifold! with something small and electrical in it that cant be replaced.

They have a variable manifold that wears, the motor is in the picture. I need to check at work as to which part on the CBBB is the V157 as around the time yours was built they changed it from the throttle body we had all become used to.

thanks. I see now. I recall replacing the throttle body and stepper motor on my earlier 2006 A6 Tdi before it dropped the tip of a glowplug into its engine and went kaput!! The fault code is electrical and the motor I see is on three bolts....so is it possible just the motor is faulty?

It can be just the motor, you can buy both as separate parts or a kit. I have searched the SDC V157 on ETKA for your car and it shows it as being the throttle valve before the EGR valve 03L 128 063 AF. We would fit Continental/VDO or Pierburg, whichever happened to be available and at the moment it is the Pierburg 7.03703.78.0. ElsaPro shows the manifold motor as being V183, with a CBEA the manifold is V157 and the throttle J338... why only VW and God know
