Hi, does anyone know if this is a weak area on the 2.0 TFSI petrol engine. My 2014 TFSI black edition Quattro is running perfectly, but someone mentioned to me that the cam can wear through the follower and to replace the follower every 50k miles or so, can anyone clarify this please.

Not usually a problem although the tappet has been upgraded from approx 09/14 production (2015 model year) to 06L 103 311

Ok, Many thanks Crasher. Mine is a 64 plate registered in December 2014, Is it worth getting it looked at to see if it has the new part number fitted, or does it throw up error codes when it wears. I don't want to risk wearing out the cam, or it breaking down on me as we are driving to France in the summer.

What is the VIN. We have a 2005 GTI here, the engine is FUBAR. The tappet shattered but the engine kept running and he kept driving so the cam is damaged. Unfortunately someone in the past had the sump off due to the usual sludge and they thought it would be a great idea to screwdriver the tea strainer in the pickup. Unfortley one tappet shard was small enough to get sucked up into the oil pump which locked solid, ripped the sprocket off the balancer shaft and still he kept driving until it stopped...

Hi Crasher, the VIN is WAUZZZ8T3FA033879 if you could look it up and see if it has the newer roller style cam follower on the hp pump that would be great.

Excellent, many thanks for clarifying that for me. Are there any other weak spots to look out for, it’s not driven hard and I change oil every 6k miles with Longlife 3 5W30 and genuine filter. How long do cam chains usually last on a well looked after example?
