My rear coil springs need replaced on my 2007 A6 Avant C6 3.0 TDI Quattro Le Mans and after checking the build code 1BV it has suggested that it has Sports Suspension fitted. Standard non-sports suspension length seems to be approximately 293mm long with Sports Suspension around 30mm shorter at 261mm. I have been confused by coil spring catalogues as some say ''not for S-Line trim'' on the 261mm sizes as my A6 has, in addition to the Le Mans badges, the S-line grille badge too. I think I read somewhere that there may be a lesser 20mm drop on S-Line as standard issue and that the 30mm drop, presumably on mine, was a Sports Suspension option. I cannot find any catalogues that list the length of the S-Line trim coil springs to help me clarify matters, I presume they must be around 272mm). Obviously I'd like to be able to order the correct springs prior to dismantling (as only then being subsequently able to measure the uncompressed dimension). The bump stops on the shock absorbers have been decimated, can I buy these separately or should I be looking at new shocks? Mileage is 120,000. Suplex springs and Monroe shocks or does anybody have direct experience of others?

Are they simple enough to change? Got to do my 2010 but same problem spring selection as mine is also a S-line Quattro with sports suspension.

They are difficult to change without a proper reach in spring compressor. There are so many spring variations that it can make your eyes bleed, there are eleven PR-1BV springs depending on the weight group PR code from 0XD to 0YQ, if you don’t go by part number and colour code you are unlikely to get it right. Post your VIN’s and I can give you the OE part number and tell you if it is available aftermarket from a trusted manufacturer which is just about Suplex and that’s it!

The rear springs are 4F0 511 115 CM and £189.48 each but you can get a Vaico V10-6611 which is supposed to be OE quality. The dampers are 4F0 513 032 AG and £187.32 and I suspect they were originally made in house at Braunschweig or by Monroe as they list their 376213SP as OESpectrum "Premium" BUT this cross references to twelve OE numbers which makes me suspicious so I would go genuine Audi on both. Don't forget the bolts and lower spring plates as on the 4F these corrode prematurely and break up.

Ok many thanks. Is it classed as sports suspension? Does it show the spring length at all ?

No info on spec whatsoever, if you buy the correct genuine parts you don't need it, I don't think there is a budget way around this. Yes it has "Pr-1BV Sports suspension/shock absorption"

Thanks for that. I think it's a little out of my price range when I'm doing both rear springs and shockers though. What's them lower spring plates you mentioned please ? Any part numbers ?
