    Hello,

I have become the recent owner of a 1996 MK3 Golf VR6 and the previous owner fitted lowering springs H&R and Koni STR dampers.
The vehicle drives well with no knocking or other issues but I was looking over the car preparing it for an MOT when I noticed a gap between the body turret area and the Strut Top Mount, it is even both sides and appears to be because the lowering springs take up less space than the originals, which would close that gap and fill the space on a factory set up.
My question is would this fail the MOT and if so I guess different springs would cure it, but I don’t really want to buy new dampers as well, or is this okay and acceptable for an MOT?
I have added a photo of the gap when the car is sat level and even.
The photo of the spring with no part numbers on is the front strut.
The spring shown with part numbers on is the rear spring and strut for reference/ information.

Thanks for reading the post, and any help is appreciated as always.

    Cheers.

That is OK, top mount rubber will be a little worn and compressed but is easy to replace, it just sits on top of the spring plate

    Thanks for the reply Crasher.

I can relax now and appreciate the information supplied. I will replace the top mount rubbers as soon as I get a chance.

    Cheers
