Hi there, I have been left with the impression of a 51plate bora tdi from 2004, the red DI aka 130bhp. Im currently on my 11th car, a lil honda civic, after loads of crap, but next year, I can finally have a bora 130bhp tdi.

its only when i have been looking at other stuff for my £7000 budget, ie
    • BMW e46 320d(only problem is they blow theyre turbos randomly, unless you get a 2003 onwards one, which are over £7000 for the es)
    • lexus is200(ok, but i drive 23miles a day to and from work, too thirsty)
    • saab 9-3 tid saloon(nothing wrong with these apart from the price)
    • audi a3 1.8t(again a nice car, but might be a tad thirsty for my 23 mile round trip)
    • honda civic last model(way too old peoples, love the build quality of a honda, but that isnt the car a 21yr old with no kids drives, even the type r doesnt appeal)
    • honda accord lastest shape ctdi(i really like this, i am just put of with the size, and its usually just me in my car)

which leaves me thinking, with the VW bora, you gets loads for you money, multifunction wheel, good stereo(very important for me), german build quality and cheaper to buy and insure compared to the same engined golf.

I have driven some fast petrols, but nothing that came close to the boras impression it left on me, it was the 1st turbo diesel i had ever driven, and i wanted it.

I have got the right sort of budget for one, but its only when i look at the people who drive them and think, maybe its a tad too old peoples car, i have always been a fan of the mk4 golf, and have been looking at them, its just you lose things moving from the bora to the golf, not things i cant live without, but cool stuff, like the full screen computer, the stereo stuff on the wheel, and its only group 8 compared to group13.

i have read i think ever review on parkers about both bora and golf, there is very little bad said about them, ppl compliment the german build quality, how strong the engines are, i no you pay more for one of these than a focus or astra, but its built so much better, those huge heavy front doors, make it feel safe. and my favourite bit is the flick out key, they could have sold the car to me on that alone.

basically, i just want to know about other ppl who have either 130bhp bora or golf(hatchback) what they are like to live with, are they as good as im to believe.

Hi. Being 21 myself ive been an admirer of the golfs for a few years, and this year i finally could get one. I went for an 02 reg Tdi 130 Golf. I also did consider a Bora before and you can get them cheaper than golfs and with a better spec for less money but in the end the golf just looks so much better than a Bora in my opinion, although bora's can be made to look better.

Ive noticed a few little niggly things since ive bought it, the DMF is on its way out and after reading up on the net about them it seems as though its a regularish problem, i think basically due to the huge amounts of torque these diesel engines put out, so hopefully i will try and get this done on warranty.

I think the interior is fantastic, it feels solid, and good quality and with a set of nice wheels you can really set the car off.

Hi Mark, what is the DMF? I dont mean to sound stupid, but thats the first time i have heard that. i have been on autotrader all morning looking at golf tdi they look so nice especially in black, the only thing in my opinion is that the golf can only be had in 5dr, the 3dr doesnt suit it, it suits the audi a3, but not the golf. going to a car supermarket tomorrow to drool over some cars :P

You obviously haven't driven some fast petrols if you think a diesel bora is a fast car

Basically, if you like the looks of the bora then go for it over the golf as you will get more car for your money.

The DMF is short for Dual Mass Flywheel, im not 100% sure what its exact job is, but its part of of the lcutch assembly, maybe makes gear changes smoother im not sure, but they wear prematurely on some of the bigger diesels, mine does it at tickover when cold at the moment, you can feel it shaking the engine and its a really harsh knocking noise, depress the clutch pedal and all is well, and also as soon as it warms up it goes. Obvious heat expansion removes the slack.

I know they are not cheap to replace though.

Personally, I don't really like it. I came from a very quick car and it was just too big a drop in performance and handling.
It's great on the motorway though and the performance really is quite good when you consider that you still get 40-50 mpg (Previous car was 15-20mpg).
One thing i will say though. SHOP AROUND! There's loads to choose from.

Got my self a Bora TDi 150 about 2 weeks ago, what an amazing car.
Having always had peugeots before i just couldn`t believe the differance the first time i got in this and i am totally addicted and practacly live in it only leaving the car to sleep. i would recommend a TDi Bora anyone.
Everything about the car stood out to me
    fuel economy is excellent
the standard stereo + speakers are very good
the build quality made my peugeot`s seem like a £50 fiesta
In the last 2 weeks i have had the car i haven`t found 1 thing i don`t love about it
IMO VW really did get everything spot on with this motor.

Hello buddy, thanks dor the reply. I prefer the 130bhp se, due to the kit you get for your money, but also like the 150, cause you get more power, however, I have read that the car can struggle with the amount of power from the 150 putting in on the road is ok in the dry, but once that road is wet. but this is just review i have been reading. but the 150 sport, you get loads anyway, 6disc changer, climate, sports seats, etc. let me know what its like on fuel, and living with.

    Hi again m8
Iv only had the car just short of 3 weeks so i wouldn`t call my self an expert but imo the 150 tdi is possible one of the best cars i have ever driven or been in.

The fuel ecom is amazing. Moterway use it normally sits at around 68 mpg`s on the flat with cruise set at 70 mph dropping to around 50 mpg`s on hills. I tested it when i first got it on a 25 mile stretch on the moterway and rest the computer at the start of the moter way trip again with the cruise set at 70mph. as i left the moterway i checked the mpg avergage and it came out at about 59mpg. Around town i do like to boot it alot but im getting about 35-40 mpg`s on average. The first time i stuck my toe into the car i was just amazed at the amount of power and it never seems to quit even on steep hills.

As to the problem you spoke about with regards to the car putting the power on the road it has no problems in the dry. as for the wet if you stick ya toe it the eps light flashes every now and again untill it finds it grip and then its away.

The Excitment of having a new car where you just can`t get enough of it normally only last a week or so with me but its still there with the bora and i just can`t get enough of it. Im out driving every chance i get and most of the time its just for the sake of driving and not actually going anywhere.

Up to now i haven`t found one thing about this car i don`t like everything just seems perfect. This car had everything i was looking for in a new motor.
Good fuel ecom, Something with power and sporty but also practical and a good family car.
