Q7 4M android auto/carplay

hi Everyone,
i am looking to get a second hand q7 and really want android auto and carplay, did they come standard with the new shape q7 or did were they introduced later in its life
any help would be appreciated

Thanks @tweetyblu do you if it came as standard or it was an optional extra I was looking for a brochure for that time but I couldn't find it

It is a software feature that can be enabled at a cost, so shouldn't be a deal breaker if you find a car without it 👍

If it wasn't included in the original build, it can be retrofitted, as long as the hardware is new enough to support it. I think the MIB-2 hardware in the Q7 from October 2015 will allow this. Most Audi dealers can do the retrofit, or you could reach out to Andyhud007 in this board to do it - he's very experienced (although a long way from Glasgow - he's located near Gatwick). It might even be something he can do remotely for you. He's an official VW Group UK Authorised Specialist, so all his retrofits are approved and logged in the Audi central database in Germany (which means a dealer can see it's an official modification).

My understanding is that there are three variances:

The very early batch of Q7 4M (15 and some 65 plates) came with USB ports which do not support Carplay or Andriod Auto. If you have access to the car, look for a little phone icon next to one of the USB ports in the center console. That's the indication of the old version car. However the USB port can be swapped and CP/AA enabled via an unofficial way/hack if you ask the right person.

Cars built from Oct 15 - 2016: Hardware support CP/AA (no phone icon next to the USB port) but not enabled by default (No Audi Smartphone Interface Icon in MMI). Can be enabled via official channel/dealer at a cost.

Cars from late 2016 or early 2017 and onward should have it enabled as standard.. Look for ASI (Audi Smartphone Interface) on the spec sheet and there should be an ASI icon in the MMI menu.

As paul mentioned, if the specs is right, missing ASI shouldn't be a deal breaker.. It isn't hard to get it enabled.

Appreciate this is over two years on from this thread but hopefully somebody can help.

I have an early 2016 (16) Q7 4M which I think falls into the middle category above (it also doesn't have the phone icon, just a usb icon over each of the two ports). If this is the case, is the dealer the only option to enable this? Would an ODB11 or similar be able to do it? Or maybe Andyhud007 mentioned above (I'm SE London so not far away) is still active on the forums?

Any pointers appreciated.

If I remember well, the panel will have to be replaced with the cables, but after that there will be no problem to enable this feature. I would suggest you to send Andyhud007 a private/email and he will surely help you to solve it. He's your man!

Just as a note, my car is older, but have the Carplay.

I thought based on above that I might not need the cables/panel replaced. I'll give Andy a shout then and cross fingers can get it sorted. Thanks agian.
