    Hi,

I am a newbie when it comes to doing car diy's. I need to get the battery replaced on my A6, I currently have the original Varta battery which has a part code 4F0 915 105 C. Have tried calling audi dealers but they won't tell me which is the exact battery I need and the online websites are not giving me a clear answer. Based on my investigations so far, I think a Bosch S5 013 is a good replacement for the current one. Can anyone confirm?

Also the owners manual says that I need to get the car unit reprogrammed once I fit the new battery, but a mechanic I was speaking to recently said that it is not required in all cases. Can someone please guide me? Also if required do I need specialist equipment for this?

    Thanks,

Well, I just changed my battery and I went for a non-Audi battery. Much cheaper than buying original, and honestly...I do not notice any difference in performance. I have an Audi A6 Allroad 2007 3.0tdi engine ASB. I bought a Sonnak Powerline SA1000 and I think I paid 1900,- NOK equivalent to 170GBP. No need to code it, but I did use VCDS to recode the new battery just to be safe. I do not have a BMS in my MMI, but changed one digit in the serial number in VCDS just to give the car a heads up that he has a new battery...

If you opt for the original Audi battery I guess you will pay at least twice as much for a new battery...

Oh, and yes, it is extremely easy to replace the battery. I believe you need a 14-15mm pipe (maybe I remember wrong...) and maybe 8-10mm wrench to do the battery poles. Lift out the old battery and reverse installation and you`re done. The battery is located in your rear compartment where the spare tire is located (at least in the avant version)

Swap is straight forward. If you can then hook up battery charger to to charging points under your bonnet. That’s how car doesn’t loose settings. You need to code new battery in with VCDS tho.

Definitely not opting to get it installed from the dealership due to the cost, just the battery itself is more than double the cost I am paying outside. I do not have VCDS, how do I get one which is the right version for my car. I have a Audi 2008 A6 2.0 TDI.

I do not have a battery charger, is it required to hook up the battery to the points under the hood? I do not have VCDS, how do I get one which is compatible to my car?

Do you have a BMS, battery management system, display in your car? If not, I would say it is not really needed to code new battery...I did not code a new and didn`t notice any difference. But after a year I just coded the new since I after a year got hold of VCDS ;-)
