Ive had quite a few people in lately with clutch problems. It turns out there is a company from Blackpool called Techniclutch operating a major comline fraud.

The customers have bought single Comline conversions off Ebay. This is what they think they are buying...

DUAL MASS > SOLID FLYWHEEL CONVERSION CLUTCH 1.9 TDI BXE BLS BKC BRU BXF BXJ BJB 8945001473489 | eBay

The company have replaced them with a fake unbalanced cheap rubbish copy which vibrates the gearbox....

DUAL MASS TO SINGLE FLYWHEEL CLUTCH KIT CONVERSION VOLKSWAGEN TOURAN 1.9 TDI | eBay

I have bought one to confirm and sure enough got sent a fake. Immediately returned for a full refund. I then contacted Comline who confirmed the fake and confirmed this place in Blackpool is NOT a customer of theirs. Reported to Ebay and they refused to remove the listing - unbelievable. Even Comline themselves cant seem to get the fake listings removed!

As Comline have confirmed they arent a customer it is worrying about the multitude of products pretending to be Comline that these people are selling.

Techniclutches response to the fraud is "We do not sell Fake items, on the odd occasion we need to replace the ordered items with alternative, due to supply issues. We are not Fraudsters, we have been trading for many years with thousands of very happy customers, on the odd occasion things go wrong, and we work hard to resolve any issues as soon as possible"

That would be the hundreds of cheapo air fresheners they flog to try and cover the horrific amount of negative feedback they get. Somehow they got Ebay to remove my negative comment.

    BEWARE!

and before someone slags off the single mass conversion, the Comline one seems to be quite good.

I hate what single mass conversions do the the refinement of an already compromised Diesel vibe, they increase fuel consumption and I have seen them snap cranks. Fit an OE Sachs or LUK and there are no issues, cut corners at your peril!

Exactly what I say. However no one wants to pay £300 - £400 against a single mass at £120 which actually seems to work well, feels good and sounds perfect.

No one is a bit sweeping, people will pay to have it fixed correctly give the arguments for and against, I only offer an OE DMF replacement or they can get Mr Clutch to do it and I will put it right when they have vibration left foot syndrome. I happily take the DMF of of serious petrol engine conversions but not Diesel.

Fair enough point. Do you think theres no such thing as a good diesel SMF then? Even the well manufactured balanced ones?

You can balance everything until you have even sent the bottom end assembly to https://vibrationfree.co.uk who are awesome chaps but if you have a design of engine that inherently tries to pound itself to death you need external vibration damping at either end of the crank to absorb these pulses and a single mass would have to be huge to affect this so in the 70’s KFW came up with the DMF for Porsche to cure shaft rattle but it was a complete failure so LUK reinvented the technology in the 90’s and now it is pretty reliable.

Lol , these Techniclutch stories have been going for 10 years much like the Kwik Fit etc .

You should never cheap out on such a crucial component , the last time I bought a SMF flywheel & clutch kit was an uprated American ACT to hold the increase of 100 ftlb on a chipped Jap SMF petrol turbo.

Many years ago I had the crankshaft piston/rod assemblies balanced for a 1952 MG TD. They were already quite well balanced by the maker, but the result after this more accurate balancing was amazing, as the engine revs would climb without any trace of vibration. Only problem was that it would happily sing beyond reasonable limits until valve bounce gave a warning, which abruptly brought the driver back to reality.

And they, and people like them, always have and always will do as life continues to bring along a fresh supply of gullible people eager to save a few pounds on repairs and dishonest people who can see a way of making a few quid. Up until now cars/vans have been reasonably benign devices where you have to try hard or be a complete **** to kill yourself. Tonight I saw an advert for a hybrid Transit, fine when it is new but over the last 50 years I have seen some seriously bodged Transits... these new ones when 20 years old are going to fry people who mess with them in an instant, it’s seriously crazy!
