    Couple of questions -

    recommendations for a remap

    whats the increase

whats it like, does it make the car significantly different ?

what effect does it have on the gearbox ?

and your own views on it, would you do it again and did it have any effects on the car that were negative.

I’ve been looking at this for a while now and I think in general the stronic gearbox is the weak link. The gearbox itself is almost at the limit of tolerance with the factory map so any more power/torque will most likely damage it. There was a member here not that long ago that had gearbox issues after purchasing a car that was mapped. In the end he got his refund.
The box is an expensive item to repair and only a handful of specialists that can repair them.
But there’s companies like superchips and Celtic tuning that offers a warranty if the remap breaks your car.
I suppose it all depends on how aggressive the map is. If all the power/torque comes in early then then the gearbox is gonna take a beating.
I know some folk who have had remaps on their cars for years and don’t have any problems.

27,000 mapped miles (101,000miles in total) and (touch wood) the only failure I’ve had was an injector the other week.

Im currently running approx 300+bhp / 490lbs ft torque

The key is HOW the power is delivered; some companies really spike the torque at low RPM’s and this is what will kill your gearbox

The box is holding up well and the gear changes are still super smooth. Im due a service on it in about 6k but Ill probably get it don early

the ‘warranties’ offered by Celtic etc run ALONGSIDE any manufacturer warranty so a 245bhp will be outside of this....

The BiTdi engine runs 320bhp and 470lb ft of torque as standard. That’s why they fit the ZF 8hp Box. ZF 8HP transmission - Wikipedia

Well understressed but necessary as it’s on the limit for S Tronic. Personally, I wouldn’t risk it.

The german tuning firm, ABT, does one for the 245 (among pretty much all of the other engine alternatives). ABT work alongside Audi and VW in Germany and offer a warranty at extra cost. They also have sales reps/places of install in the UK. They are very highly regarded....also by Audi (my dealer does installs of their products).

One is 282bhp and 630Nm. The other 300bhp and 580Nm.

Not cheap though at €2990 for either package, plus install cost. TUV is ibviously not an issue for the UK. The warranty packages they offer are either for 12, 24 or 36 months.

From what I gathered on the abt and mtm setup is that they are piggyback ecus rather than a remap. Suppose it makes it undetectable to dealer machines.
Both offer warranty which is the main attraction but at £3k is it worth taking a gamble that you don’t do £2500 worth of damage from another remap option at around £500.
That’s what I’ve been weighing up. I still have a year left in my warranty so Celtic option seems to be a good one for me.

@rhyso is tuner himself so no need for Revo/Apr.

Also I'm running 245ps for almost a year now with tcu tune. Independent dyno shows it's running 333hp 767nm. Soon I'm going for stage 2 though

That’s a lot of torque. Did you map the dsg box as well or is that standard?
