I have an intermittent problem with acceleration in my Audi A4 1.9TDi Avant. The car is a 2002 SE with 78k on the clock and it's due a service in the next few miles.

The problem is that the acceleration sometimes goes flat immediately after changing gear. I end up trundling along like a lemon waiting for the accelerator to respond...then when it does, the power comes all of a sudden, making driving quite hairy at times!
I've taken the car down to my local independent garage and explained the problem. He suggests it could possibly be the air mass filter (?) or loose hoses.
Could anyone out there give me any tips or advice?

    Thanks,

    Tim

Yes, Tim. It is likely to be the MAF (Mass Air Flow meter/sensor), especially if it has not yet been done on your A4.

Thanks Paul. I've just done a couple of long distance runs this w/e and reassessed the problem. She's definitely lost a lot of power and flexibility throughout the rev range. My local garage is having a good look on Tuesday, so I'll keep you posted.

Get them to read for fault codes first, If they can't take it to someone who can. It will lead you to the problem.

It can be MAF related or MAP or over-boost etc etc causing limp mode (Reduced power) which seems to be happening.

    Tim,

I am having exactly the same problem with my A4 2002 130 BHP Sport. However it only occurs in wet weather & after I wash car suggesting its a damp problem. Have had the MAF checked by Audi & they say it fine but they cannot find a problem because diagnostics say everything is OK. does your problem happen more regularly ie also in dry conditions? If you happen to get a result please let me know outcome. Good Luck! Mitch

    Hi,
I am having same problem you guyed had in 2007. It is intermittent but the car (Audi A4 TDi 13 2001) loses power when changing gear and specially in damp weather. Did you get your cars fixed? My one is showing no fault in diagnostic. If you solved it please tell me what you had to do and what went wrong? Thanks--
