So today on a long journey my car judders a little when I touch the brakes at around 60-70mph, I know it's not the brakes as I've had both the front pads/discs changed and the rear pads changed. I spoke to the independent techie who did my brakes yesterday and he reckons it could need balancing or four wheel alignment. Any advise please? I know the brake fluid service is due so could that be it?

My car does that but I know it’s warped discs. Getting them changed next week and get the winter wheels on.
If it only happens when braking it’s more than likely something to do with the brakes. Unbalanced wheels will vibrates at speed as well as when slowing down.
Only other thing is it could be a worn bush and when you brake the weight transfer is squeezing the bush and you get a kind of knock on/off feel

Thanks, my discs are not even two months old so can't be that. I did kerb the alloy badly but like you said that would exhibit the issue without touching the brakes. I'm at a loss, either the independent techie is telling porkies or there is something else?

It could still be a bad disc or the disc and pads haven’t bedded properly and it’s ruined the discs or pads. Had a dodgy pad in my old Honda before, everything looked fine and fitted fine but there was vibrations when braking. Couldn’t figure it out for ages then replaced the pads with trw pads, as opposed to the cheapy Euro Car Parts/partco ones(£7), and it all worked fine.
Shoud have known better than to use some unbranded cheap pads.

Also maybe long shot that new discs not installed properly?... hub to new disc seating issue? ...not cleaned/ sanded properly?... Long shot but could be possible... were the new discs ok on initial install? the judder wasn’t evident from the start etc..

Mine are pagid so hopefully should not warp inside two months and the Indy who installed them checked yesterday. I might have to get Audi to take a look at them for my peace of mind.

Wasn’t thinking warping... more the installation/seating of the new discs... difficult thing to check without putting a gauge on the discs... if they are out... it’s either the installation /seating... (try cleaning and reinstallation?) .... or they are warped again and need replaced again...

They could warp in a short period if hub face and disc were not perfectly cleaned when fitted, but any play in suspension / steering parts could also cause similar problem.
Best advice may be to have discs checked for run out.

Indy has changed the discs under warranty so hopefully this issue should be resolved. I'm going to test it tomorrow on the motorway.
